If I've Dynamatted my whole car...

Should I bother getting mass-backing carpeting? I'm on Rockauto.com, and plan to get the higher grade Essex carpeting over the traditional cut pile (although because that will not match the type of carpet on the door panels, I may re-think that decision!).

I did have a brief discussion with Jim85IROC when I was trying to buy carpet through him (have had some difficulty getting ahold of him as of late), and he said to pass on it. Mass Backing is padding that is IN ADDITION to the OEM type padding that comes with it anyway, correct? How much extra noise will I be spared?

I'm finally getting the inside of this back together and want to do it right...help is appreciated! Has anyone done the Essex over the cut pile? What did you think?

If you've Dynamatted the car you should be able to skip the mass backed option as this is a sound barrier.

We sell the cut pile carpets. If you end up going that route here's a link to them on our site.We offer free shipping on all of our products too.

Re: If I've Dynamatted my whole car...

i took the original carpet out of my 90 and i was surprised at the quality. heavy rubber backing formed exactly to fit my car. wow it was nice, but the carpet was so worn and after 20 years, it changed color and faded.
i bought aftermarket carpet in a charcoal and when i lifted the seats and plate that covers the entrance - the old carpet which never saw light was the same color as the new carpet.
but the new stuff was just not as good. put it in and hated how the rear looked so i took the rear out and did something else.
but look under your oem carpet and you will probably be surprised.
