Instrument Panel Light

Sorry if this is a double post. My power decided to go out and im not sure if this was posted; but the issue is that my dashboard light is not on, along with the a/c panel light or the light that illuminates the shifting column.

I have check the fuse and it is not blown. I need to know what could be the problem and where else to start. it is a 1991 z28

Re: Instrument Panel Light

yeah thats fine. i have turned it up and down. all the way up turns the dome light on and thats fine. It just happened after i hit a big pot hole that rattled the whole car. I am thinking something got disconnected?

I also went in and checked the light bulb. Thats fine too. So the fuse is no blown, the dimmer switch is not all the way down and the bulb seems fine. Is there like an electrical harness that connects all 3 (dashboard light, A/C light, and shifter light) that might have gotten disconnected when i hit the pot hole?

Re: Instrument Panel Light

I've got the same problem on my 89. Almost, at least. For me, at least, Ive narrowed it down to a bad connection on the running lights push/pull switch, left of the steering column. I have to wiggle mine to get it to come on. I'd pull that panel off, and check that switch.

Re: Instrument Panel Light

check the connections in your fuse panel itself... a wire may have worked loose from the back of the panel... thats my best guess. also do yourself a favor and switch the fuse. check for corrosion and try snding the contacts in the fuse panel. dint worry about the grit. just scratch up the metal if it got corroded so you have some contact. if you see no corrosion and no loose wires get yourself a testlight and start seeing what wires have voltage and follow the wire testing it as you move along to see if the wire broke internally. (rare) but hey on a 18 yr old car... it happens. good luck!
