Getting mildew smell out of car?
Hey guys, I'm fixing up my 91 TA, but the smell of the interior is killing me when I work inside it, mind you, it's alot weaker than it was when I had originally started, it's still pretty gnarly. It's a t-top car, and when I got it the trunk was wet, would steam cleaning it help? Or should I get an industrial strength smell spray?

Your best bet is probably going to be to take the carpet out, and clean under it, and replace the carpet.
Steam may do it though. I don't think an air freshener will do anything but cover it.

Re: Getting mildew smell out of car?
I had a buddy whose car got rained on pretty badly with the t-tops out. We ended up shampooing the carpet to get rid of the odor. Dry it out with a hair dryer first to get as much of the moisture taken care of, then wash it with carpet cleaner. And then work on getting that leak fixed! Last but not least, if it still smells kind of funny after that, you could use febreeze on it, but I'm guessing that would just cover up the odor temporarily. If all of the above doesn't work, just replace the rear carpet itself. You can get it for pretty cheap.
