My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

So far so good. 8pt bar by competition engineering and installed by a local shop, 1st Try Engineering. Mig welded on the floors/plates, Tig weld everywhere else for clean welds that are visable. I am liking it so far

Seats are Corbeau Forzas, and i have to get to installing the rest of the interior pieces

Reusing stock seat brackets and get this, i used the stock power seat bracket setup for the driver seat. makes that seat so much more comfortable All you need is 4 metal tab brackets to connect the stock bolt holes to the corbeau ones. very easy to do. Cut and drill job. Sorry no pics of it at this time but its getting there.

More to come as i get to finishing it up this weekend or next week whenever i finalize what i'm gonna do for carpet and door panels. Dont think the arm rests will fit but i will notch them if i have to or just delete them

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

do those plates just weld to the floorpan like it looks? or is it more complicated than that? I wanted to get the same cage later on but thinking arc welding won't do the trick.

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

i have all teh interior stuff laying next to the car, i just got the car back from the fab shop and havent gotten around to doing the rest of the interior. So yes there will be a passenger seat and carpet/panels/plastics/console, etc. COmplete full interior, just isnt quite done yet

Yes the plates weld to the floor all around the plate, and the bars weld to the plate. I have heard you can arc weld depending on how strong the welder is. I have a lincoln wire feed that runs on your standard 110-115 volt or whatever it is. I have heard it would work on that steel thickness if you do it right I just wasnt confident in my own fab skills to cut and mark up the bars like that, so i had a good shop do it right.

Yes, you can arc weld it if you really know what you are doing. It's easy to burn-through the floor if you arent paying attention.
That looks really good! Keep us up-dated!

Justin, can you take a quick picture from outside of the car, side angle, right by the top of the hatch area. Looking to install a cage with the notchback, and I want to see if it will clear.

Thanks man....

Yeah, please do so. Got a few fabricators insisting that the bars will have to literally go through the window on the notchback because they won't clear, but then I have others telling me that there should be more than enough room. I'd hate to cut the notch, so if there is in fact no room, I'm gonna just stick with the stock hatch. Good luck at the track today, post some vids if you can....

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

Question for Orr89RocZ...
I also have the Corbeau Forza seats in my car and was wondering how much room there would be if I ever installed a roll bar without swing out door bars. Do you lose much room with your seat and door bar the way they are? Basically, is it any harder to get in with the door bar there?

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

No, its a bit more problematic to get in and out now but there is room without the swingouts. Its gonna come down to how you have the bars installed. My bars as you can see, run just with the edge of the seat so it doesnt really interfere with you getting in and out of the car

I dont have room for a door armrest tho.

I just got my competition engineering 8-point. I am getting ready to install it and was just wondering if they had to do anything with the fuel tank when they welded the plates on directly above it?

Thanks, wait til i get pics of it from the outside in better light once its all done. the red/black compliment the motor as its red and black, and the competition grey wheels with red brake calipers and factory red Irocz badges in the rocker/rear bumper really go well together

look much better with the black interior in place of that "classy" red one. I would have gone for black seats though, but thats just me.

not sure what pannels i will get and what color. probly gonna keep it all black too but i wanted a red accent on it to go with the seats

I went red seats because i was gonna do red carpet with black everything else. Unfortunately none of the carpets i could find match these seats so i went to black.

I like the looks of that! It would have been hard to find carpet in that color! A good upholstery shop could "Notch" the armrest for you and re-cover it in synthetic leather (Or something like it) and make it look right. My new door panels came with the holes for the armrest pre-cut.

Looks sweet dude. I can't wait to get my cage put in The issue with the armrests is annoying though. Maybe theres a panel you could make or buy out there to cover up the spots where the armrest mounts?

not sure what i'm gonna do with the arm rests. I think where id have to notch them it would be right where the thin handle meets the thick section..so basically cut it in two.

You guys (or, at least Demon355) could do what Kandied91Z did. I liked his design and came across it when I was searching for a 6 pt. roll bar but didn't want the standard front & rear support bars that got in the way. I built mine a couple years ago with a tubing bender, MIG, drill press & notcher, and it really stiffens the car up along with the subframe connectors. It's not as strong as the standard straight-bar setup due to the bends in the front and rear support bars, but since I'm not taking the car to the track it was fine with me. Jeff (Kandied91Z) and I are the only two I know of that have one like this.

Kandied91Z's

See mine attached below...

Similar to how I did mine.

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

problem is i do take my car to the track and needed the bars to be legal with the seats for the times i run. But then again, i'm not using NHRA legal harnesses so whats the difference? And next year if all goes well with my winter project, the 8 pt bar will not be enough. So it was legal for alittle while, well atleast part of the car is legal

Whoops, well make that three of us. I like how you braced it. After seeing Jeff's setup I was thinking of something similar but thought I'd see how everything fit, and then I never got around to it. So you switched from a targa top to a vert? Any finished pictures?

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

UPDATE

Did my door panels FINALLY

Matching corbeau seat material on the panel. Bottom is black vinyl from Corbeau as well.
40 bucks a yard, only need yard each color. 8 bucks for the hardboard backing from lowes.

Not bad for a 50 dollar a piece panel in the end. Fits the car well enough for me. Not too fancy and easy to do.

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

Depending on how you do the bars, how wide your seats are, etc, you could keep a legal cage that will clear the armrests.

Ship weight of the cage was 110 lbs I think. he didnt use all the piping, so I guess it added 80 lbs.

this greatly stiffens the car. I noticed an immediate difference in how it launched at the track and even during day to day driving. Car felt stiff and much smoother.

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

Man that looks nice!! So as I get another car to drive I'm going to start doing a similar setup with mine. On the plus side it is nice to work in a fab shop were all the steel I'll ever need (use) is free... :P

On a side note... You ever going to be finished building/adding to this beast? lol

Probably not unless i run out of money someday Even then I will still be tuning it without having to add money to it so its never done. I already want to change this setup.

Re: My custom interior started: 8pt roll bar/Corbeau Seats

For handling, you should look at a roll bar/subframe connector combo. It adds weight but just add some hp to make up for it. The car feels much better with stiff chassis/body

YOu can spend more money and do chromoly which is abit lighter
