GOOD plastic glue

My seatbelt guides are split. Since the driver side seatbelt guide is discontinued for my year, I want to glue it and then paint paint it. So, what glue would be proper for what I want?

Re: GOOD plastic glue

I've had great luck with Gorilla Glue The only down side I've ever been able to ascertain is that its messy, it foams, and you usually need clamping force on the two pieces being glued untill it dries. I wouldn't advise it for finished surfaces but since your going to be painting afterwards sanding down the excess prior to paint should solve your problems. Its really easy to apply if you have a steady hand (per mfg instructions apply the glue to one side and wet the other) ALSO YOU WANT TO USE IN A WELL VENTED AREA AS THIS STUFF STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN..

Hope this helps.

Re: GOOD plastic glue

I would recommend plastic welder. Its a two part mix and it is really strong once dry. You can sand it down to blend in nicely too.

Re: GOOD plastic glue

yea I'm not spending so much money for a plastic welder. This little glue should do for just seatbelt guides.

Re: GOOD plastic glue

Plastic welder is just the product name, its not an actual tool.

Re: GOOD plastic glue

Oh ok. How workable is it since I have to squeeze the two piece together then sand off the glue that gets squeezed out.

Re: GOOD plastic glue

Permantex(very important you use this brand, all other brands are crap that i've used anyway) 5-minute epoxy works great for hard solid plastics, I can't remember if the plastic you're trying to repair has to be solid or somewhat flexible. The stuff is sold at some walmarts and most advance auto stores. A tip: Let it dry/cure for a half day though before you wet-sand it down. My other recommendation would be the 3M epoxy but you have to order that from somewhere and i've never tried it.
