Ignition Key Copy Cost?

Ignition Key Copy Cost?
Hey all.. I was just wondering.. how much is it to get a copy of the VATS key for an 89 Camaro RS? I know the door key is just a simple copy.. but I have to go to the dealer to get a copy of the VATS key, if I am thinking correctly.
Just wondering if anyone has, and how much it set you back. Thanks!

I paid around $25 for the VATS key for my 89 Corvette, which is the same kind as your car. I went to a local lock place rather than the dealer.

Re: Ignition Key Copy Cost?
this way save you about $12
here is the link to get key blanks and second tells you how to decode the resistor

http://www.vatskey.com/vats/vatskeylock.htm
or you could just wire in a resistor and just use a regular gm key with no chip.

Thank you guys! ![thank you](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/thanks.gif)
At least now I have an idea of what to do. Probably just go with getting one made locally. $25 isn't that bad - considering.
Thanks again!![nod](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/nod.gif)

Re: Ignition Key Copy Cost?
check your local hardware stores as well.
stores here cut them for 12-15 bucks. they have a techtronic machine to check your key vs the new one. pretty much the same thing as a locksmith, without the "corvette tax" added on.
good luck.
