Re: Best carpet???
I just recently bought ACC carpet from rockauto.com for $122 + $21 for shipping. I hemmed and hawed over "whats the best" for a long time, and finally figured out that I spent more time thinking about the stuff than if I just bought it and dealt with it. Total time to uninstall and reinstall the carpet in my car was ~9 hours start to finish. I had minimal cutting to do on the carpet i got, just some trimming around the console and that was it.
Theres a post out here somewhere about a guy on the boards here that is supposed to be able to get fancy Dorsett carpet from ACC, but when I looked it was like $200+, and I personally decided that nobody would really see/know the difference.
Since I have a convert, my carpet will get trashed fast anyway. for $145 every few of years, I finally decided I didnt care, as it was so easy to do its just not woth worrying about.

I bought the essex type carpet from rockauto.com, it was around $330 shipped for both the front and rear carpet. This is the premium type carpet, like the stuff that comes in newer cars. I spent about 8 hours putting down peel-n-seal on the floor pans, and putting the carpet in. It's molded nicely, and fit well.

Re: Best carpet???
Recently installed ACC carpet in my 87 IROC, it fit reasonably well. The pre-installed footwell padding on the back of the carpet didnt line up too well and left the fire wall area coverage shy. The top side drivers side foot pad area is a little further back than I care for. Cant see these flaws under the floor mat and the short fire wall coverage is hidden also so, guess it doesnt matter to anyone but me.

Re: Best carpet???
There's basically only 1 brand of carpet now. ACC and ACS used to both have carpets, but ACC bought out ACS. The result is that ACC's carpet is now made by the mills that made the better quality ACS stuff, but it's made to match ACC's existing colors. There are a couple rogue companies like Trim Parts that mold their own, but they're using the same bulk carpet.
What it boils down to is that you're getting the same thing no matter who you buy from, so choose your retailer based on reputation/service/price or whatever other qualifier suits your needs the best.
