Gearshift Boot help

Gearshift Boot help
Greetings,
I am re-doing my interior and have across an issue. Currently I am attempting to replace the rubber part of the gear shift boot of my 84 Pontiac Trans Am 5 speed manual.
Can anyone tell me what I would need to repair this? A standard gearshift boot does not seem to fit. What parts can I use, and what is the best way to repair this. I have included a pic for visual reference.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Gearshift Boot help
What kind of "standard gearshift boots" are you looking at?
Most likely its discontinued from dealer, junkyard is your best bet or you could try ebay and the classifieds here.
I think its 4 screws that hold it to the tunnel. Will have to remove the console most likely.
Try anyone of the sponsors to the side ---->. Hawks could get ya one for sure if you gave them a call.
Bet that let in a lot of heat driving down the road huh? Like these cars don't already put enough heat through the firewall let alone with a hole underneath the console too!

Re: Gearshift Boot help
I wonder how it would look to just do away with the whole center console completely, and just use onw of those rubber shift boots screwed right to the carpet?

It must give you that old muscle car feeling, like an old 4-on-the-floor car.

Re: Gearshift Boot help
I dont know how the stock one is held in, but if the autozone ones dont fit, maybe you could get one that is a little too big, and modify it.
Another option might be trying to get a 4th gen boot to fit?

Re: Gearshift Boot help
it was still available 2 years ago, but the 4th gen boot is very close to the same thing if I remember right. Go to the local GM parts counter and ask about pricing.

Re: Gearshift Boot help
A buddy of mine's wife took 4 pieces of pleather, sewed them together, and made a new boot. Pretty simple really.

I purchased one from this guy on ls1tech who makes them out of (so he says) real italian leather. Its a very nice piece, real leather, and fit like a glove.
At one point I was gun hoe about deleting my console. I do like having a place to rest my arm though, thats why I ultimately decided to put it back in.

Yeah, I guess it does provide a few necessary commodities too, like the Ash Tray, Cig lighter, power windows, e-brake, and a place to keep the registration

Re: Gearshift Boot help
Yea. My console is in the back hatch now, and I have one seat and no carpet. Was debating leaving the thing out. Then I went to roll the window down, and grabbed the wrong switch and rolled down the passenger side. >.> If there was a way to do it and keep the functionality it'd be sweet.

Re: Gearshift Boot help
But, ......When I did the auto to manual conversion on my car I bought one of the generic rubber tunnel boots from Advance Auto. It fit fine on my car, but then again I cut the hole in the tunnel just big enough for the shifter to clear. I don't know what the dimensions are on the originally 5spd cars.
