I hate cold weather...

Look what I got on new year day. That's from the cold weather we've been getting lately.

I don't think the Florida sun is any better for that sort of thing.

Re: I hate cold weather...

sorry for your crack...it sucks....and thanks...reminds me I should take my mint dash out and put on my "winter dash" that had a crack I repaired. It's good enough for the cold weather, even for sitting in the garage.

Oh man. That sucks. Most upholstery shops can repair those types of cracks. Call around and see what they would charge. I guess I'm fortunate I don't drive my IROC during the cold winter months.

Re: I hate cold weather...

Armor All is your friend, and use it OFTEN.

Cold weather itself isn't the cause, it's more the drastic temp changes. Like right now...58F degrees yesterday afternoon, 26F degrees tonight, 65F degrees today.

I hate this time of year. Shorts & t-shirts in the day.....bundled under an electric blanket at night!

Most upholstery shops will not repair it this time of year,as the repair will not stay due to the cold. And alot of them will not fix any dashes that are over 5-6 years old,I know I don't mess with a dash over 5 year's old, when it comes to vinyl repair.

I slathered that thing in polish, on bright days I could't see because of the glare. What really sucks is that it was the original in perfect condition!

In the Atlantic provinces you need to store your car around the end of Oct.

Hey 89, How many white T/A are in Halifax. When we were on the cruise in Oct, I saw a 89 white T/A in Halifax. We went on the horse carriage cruise of the city. Didnt look like much to do there. The older I get the more I realize how small this world is. Went to a company party, met my partners wife(not from san fran, business partner) and I think I asked her out 20 years ago. She remembered me but we left it at that.lol

Re: I hate cold weather...

I thought armor all dried out interior parts, in the long run. Something with the silicon in it. I was always told to refrain from it.

Re: I hate cold weather...

I've heard the Armor-All stories as well, but I have always used it and never had any cracking/fading issue with any of my vehicles. I just sold my Blazer that was 15 years old, 245K on it, and had Armor All since new (my dad had it before me), no cracks or any damage at all. That's my

I use mother's polish. It has plasticizers that are supposed to make it more flexible.

Re: I hate cold weather...

I use Windex as most cleaners are greasy and I like the factory look. My old center console had the lines fade due to Armour All, never use it again on my car or wife's new car.

Try living in Florida, where the humidity is so bad, on New Years day you sweat just going from your car to the house as it is so bad. I'll take the cold any day, I am trying to convince the wife to move out of state. Andrew

This is why my ride sleeps during winter . . .

That's -42degF!!!!!

I have no cracks in my original dash, but it's never sat in the sun except when going for the odd summer Sunday drive. The sun's UV rays are usually the biggest cause of damage. Fading plastic and other interior parts is not the only thing it does, but it also breaks-down the material. Sometimes you may not even see any fading but the parts get weak. Then, due to that, they crack when the temp gets cold or if they are physically hit or moved. Treating vinyl, plastic, seals, etc, can help extend the life of these materials by restoring the lost properties due to exposure to the elements and sometimes add UV resistance.
