Stock upholstery?
I've had this '83 z28 for about a year and a half now. It seems to be bone stock except for the wheels (I've got the originals in storage) and the R134 converted a/c. I was just wondering is this upholstery is stock or not? My dad keeps telling me it came with the z28 package that year but I've looked at a lot of third gen pics and haven't seen it once. Do any of you guys know if they came this way from the factory or if its custom?

Re: Stock upholstery?
Not a chance bud. That car is my pride and joy. I couldn't stand to start pulling stuff off of her like that. The driver seat is starting to wear but its not too bad.
So I guess I stole that car for $1300 with 66k original miles? It's got 73k on it now as it's my daily driver. She's got her fair share of battle scars after 25 years and she leaks oil but not too bad for a car thats never been modded and has survived 2 16 yr old, first car drivers... so far. (I'm one of them) *knock on wood*>_>
I'm gonna start putting a towel or something over that driver seat now that I know it's rare. I'll get some proper covers when I get the cash gathered up. I guess I'll do that before the 350ci and x-ram upgrade. Anybody reccomend some good quality, cheap seat covers? $7.25 an hour doesn't go very far these days.
Oh yeah, does anybody know the production numbers on fully loaded crossfire injected z28s with that upholstery in 1983? I don't feel like doing the research right now.

Re: Stock upholstery?
What is the condition of the drivers seat? If it is not torn or ripped I would pull those seats and save them for when I had my restoration close to complete. Why? Because that material is not available anymore and a seat cover will not stop the normal "sliding in and out" wear and tear.

Re: Stock upholstery?
Well, it tore on me about 6 months ago. My mom sewed it up for me one day while I was at work but it was just a quick fix. It's slowly starting to separate again and there's about 4 or 5 little holes that are trying to develop around it. The tear is about 2-3 inches long now on the left side part that sticks up. I'm 6 foot and 220 lbs. so it's hard for me to be gentle when getting in. Were people smaller back in the early 80s? My *** barely fits in that seat
The problem with pulling the seats is I don't have anything else to replace them with and I'm pretty much broke. I don't know if they'll let me in the junkyards around here since I'm underage.

Re: Stock upholstery?
Looks like the uncommon Lear-Siegler interior package. it was available on early Camaros I occasionally see the Red/Orange in junkyards but have only seen the gray online.
The reason there is no more material to be had for these seats is that some company bought all of GM's leftover fabric and made......Purses! that's right purses! LOL
I know, sounds made up, but I swear it's true.

Re: Stock upholstery?
Yep, matching door panels. The guy that sold it to me used to be my neighbor so that's why I got such a good deal. Plus I had to get it registered and inspected cause it sat in his driveway for 9 months. He had been trying to get 18 for it but NO ONE called on it. Good thing he didn't know what he had

Re: Stock upholstery?
They were Lear Siegler. This option was the "Best" seats you could buy.
This is out of the 1983 brochure.
