Re: How much Dynamat do I need?

I'm using damplifier pro from second skin. cheaper and better than dynomat (caution: opinion!) For really cheap, there is a product some call peel & seal, however I found a different brand. Just go to the hardware store and look for a self adhesive roof insultion. At home depot is ~$75 for 100 sqft which is more than enough to do your basic interior covering (not if you get crazy though, you might need more).

Re: How much Dynamat do I need?

Describe "floor". Floor from top of firewall to back of cargo area? or floor from end of footspace to beginning of cargo area( beginning starts where the rear seat backs end).

I'll give you my crude measurements anyway. 85sqft for the whole floorspace (top of firewall to end of cargo area), just floor space, no inner wheel wells or inside quarter panels. 15 for entire firewall, 30 for cargo space, and 40 for just passenger area, not including firewall. Again, this is for floor only.

Re: How much Dynamat do I need?

40-50sq ft should do ya then. I'd go with 50 to be safe. It's better to have extra than to run out. You can always find a place for extra.

An interesting point; even if you don't care about adding weight, 50sqft on average only weighs 25lbs. 25lbs isn't a big hit considering our cars weight 3200+lbs. And if it did matter a whole lot, you probably wouldn't be adding it anyway

Re: How much Dynamat do I need?

For those that have covered the outer door, can it be pulled away at a later time and be reinstalled or is it a one time thing and needs to be replaced?

Re: How much Dynamat do I need?

The adhesive can be softened with a heat gun and peeled away once applied. Again, it's always easier in words, but it can deffinitely be removed at a later date if chosen so. However, I'm not sure if you can restick it after it's been removed once. Might not hold up any more. Your best bet would be to not cover the door in areas you feel will need to be removed.

Anybody here try Fatmat? I installed it in my Silverado and it made a huge difference, much quieter. I have not used dynamat so I can't really make a direct comparision, but after installing it on the floor and doors, I have not had any issues after a year. Fatmat only runs about $1/sq ft, about a quarter the cost of dynamat, but more expensive than peel and seal. Keep in mind that peel and seal is asphalt based, products made for automotive use are rubber based. There is also B-Quiet which runs about $1.40/sq ft. Will be making this decision again soon once the bird gets out of paint so I also have an interest in how much it really takes to cover the floor and sides. I would have guessed at close to 100 sq ft to do an entire interior. Would be nice if someone that has done their whole interior would be able to share how much it really took.
