(2000 5-speed)console in auto gta
I found a 2000 camaro with a 5-speed center console and i was wondering if it would bolt into my 89 gta and would it leave a gap under the radio or sit flush?i have seen a post that said all 98 and up consoles were the same and fit no with problem so i assume if thats true that a 5-speed console(instead of a 6-speed) should also fit without a problem right?I really hope this will work because they only want 40 bucks for it........

I know that nothing like this is just a bolt-in deal and thats fine i can make it work my biggest concern is how the fit and finish will be where the console meets the radio pod....

the 5/6 speed 4th gen center consoles should fit fine with minor modification and radio pod intact. But an auto 4th gen center console is a bitch to "get right" I had to mutilate my radio pod since the whole center console sits a couple of inches forward to accommodate the autoshift plate

Wiring, if you don't have the connectors for the 12V outlets.

No, it was the regular thirdgen shifter. For 2 reasons 1) I plan to get a Megashifter or a Z-gate in the future. 2) I didn't have a 4th gen shifter... it all works nontheless. The main reason I went with an auto plate instead of manual, is because I like knowing what gear I'm in (refferring to the orange "needle" that follows the shift shaft)

Re: (2000 5-speed)console in auto gta
well just to inform all i still havent had a chance to put in my console but i did go back to the junk yard that i got the console from and they had a 89 gta with only 85000 miles which is odd because they only keep new cars no old stuff but this car was in such good shape that they kept it because it wasnt wrecked it was a theft recovery,i got the dash pad which was still very soft with no scratches or cracks and a t-top bag both of which are like brand new for only $85 so if you add it all up i got a 4th console,t-top bag and dash pad all for only $125 plus tax and he gave me the radio bezel for free

not to hijack the thread but does the 4th gen shifter make it easier when installing the 4th gen console?

Re: (2000 5-speed)console in auto gta
there are many threads on here that show it done with the 3rd gen shifter... I have consoles for sale and intend to put a 4th gen one in my 89 t/a... I was thinking maybe that the complete shifter might also make it a bit easier.... Firebat and I are trying to find this out.....

Re: (2000 5-speed)console in auto gta
I put a 4th gen shifter and auto console in my 89. had to mod the shifter a bit. Took off the BTSI and bracket, move the shifter assy back a couple inches relocate the cable hole works great. I used the 3rd gen cable just had to open up the hole on the shifter end of the cable, use a horsehoe clip from a set of drum brake parking brake lever to shoe pin to attach it to the 4th gen peg.
