T-Top sunshades

I've never seen what they look like. Does anyone have a pic? I searched and didn't come up with anything. So I made my own, and I was just curious as to how close my design was to the factory part.

I used a 3oz mat, fierglassed it off a cardboard template I made. 1 edge I sanded to a edge and wrapped in felt so it slipes behind the plastic trim and glass, holds it tight to it, dont make any noise and the other side on the top I used small weather strip so it seals against the glass and the original weather strip. Befoe I put the weather strip on I sanded it smooth and painted it black. It don't vibrate or make any rattling noise, even with the stereo on and going over bumps. It still seals nice and tight, put the garden hose on top of car and no drips or leaks. It really does help keep the car cooler and in the Vegas heat that is a good thing. The only down side is, if I want to take the shade off I have to remove the t-top, slide it out and put the t-top back on, the plus side is, they stores in the t-top bag, and they fit in the bag with the t-tops. I'll post pics soon. Any comments?? So how close to factory is my design??

I've got a couple pics in my headliner tech install page:

From the sound of it, yours are somewhat similar, except that the stock ones (as well as the aftermarket ones like I'm showing) don't have any sort of weatherstrip around them.

Re: T-Top sunshades

Here's a set of factory sunshades right out of their original box, so their still like brand new... 20 years old. I've never even looked at them until now!

The top face has a black vinyl(maybe paint) coated surface(prolly thin cardboard); there are a couple of stick-on velcro pads for attachment(to the glass, I'd guess); the underside has the padded headliner material; there's a nylon binding stitched around the perimeter; and the total thickness of each shade is about 3/8"-1/2".

Re: T-Top sunshades

Modern Day Muscle has the hard plastic type. GM NOS. Expensive but very nice and moisture dosen't effect them. I just put them in my IROC.

Re: T-Top sunshades

LAFireBoyd, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I park my car at work, and by the endof the day its a frikin oven. I didnt realize those things were sunshades, i figured they are just padding for the two t-tops when you store them in the back to avoid glass on glass contact. BUT it all makes sense now!

Im using them starting tommorow!!! Thanks again.
