Custom-fitting headunit enclosure

Ok, so I finally went and bought a radio-pod for my firebird. Now that THAT is out of the way, I have to work on getting the actual headunit in the little devil. My only problem is just that, getting the headunit in, as everyone else has probably already experienced. I was wondering if there were any places that sell conversions that will your average sized headunit into an '88 firebird's, or if I'd have to do some molding myself?

Thanks

are you talking about an aftermarket deck?? if you are you will need to go to your local install shop or crutchfield and buy a dashkit for your car.

Re: Custom-fitting headunit enclosure

ya, that's what it is, a dashkit. I don't know if there's a universal size or not, but my aftermarket headunit is roughly 2.25" tall and 7.25" wide.

And I'm looking at the link you posted, GTA_IN_T.O, however I'm not sure exactly which model number has what I want exactly. I have the radio pod and the face plate for the radio/HVAC system, so I just need the dashkit to fit it in easier. I'm looking at the models, but they all look pretty similar, and I don't want to mess up and get the wrong one. Any help on the right one? I'll start looking through crutchfield and the sort. Thanks again everyone.

EDIT: I guess this should do the trick?: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-V8ojBeR...0&I=120903524P

Re: Custom-fitting headunit enclosure

Most autozones, bestbuys, and even walmart has the adapter for our cars. If you still have your old radio you need to get the brackets off the side of the radio as most GM din and a half mounts on the side so the kit I got I had to take the little angle brackets off my old radio and put on the adapter. My first install I couldn't find a place that had an adapter that was flat, most for some reason extends out 2 inches, which I thought looked dumb. So I went to an office store and got a black plastic clip board. Got out my dremal and made my own plate. Unfortantly that got stolen with the radio when I was in college. But since just about every car GM made in the 80's had the same size radio, the adapters are numerous, some fit better than others.

Re: Custom-fitting headunit enclosure

hmm, ok. Ya, I'll probably stop by Tweeters or something again. That's where eI got my 2000 F150's, but I wasn't sure if there were still many out there for a car that's 20+ y/o. I'll stop by and see what they have.

Oh, and I don't have the original h/u anymore. The radio pod was actually stolen from it the first time, then the car was sold to me. I just put in my aftermarket h/u from my truck.
