T-Top Headliner ABS Plastic - Could you leave it uncovered and paint it?

I was thinking about buying a new ABS Plastic headliner, but getting it uncovered. I was wondering if anyone that purchased it this way and then covered it themselves would know what it looked like before it was covered with material. I was thinking of painting it black like the rest of my interior with the black vinyl paint. Just curious to see if it would look okay if it were painted and left uncovered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It comes black, so you wouldn't need to paint it unless you wanted a duller finish. The plastic looks, well, like regular textured ABS plastic. It certainly looks better than no headliner, but it screams "unfinished".

I bought one and it came in gray. It has the same texture on it as the rest of the factory plastic interior pieces and mine looks very nice.

I too will have to paint mine black since I am changing the color of the interior.

I got mine from Classic Industries, it was around $140.00.

I myself like the look of it uncovered. Probably because I know that it will never sag again.

yeah, that was a major brain fart on my part. It is indeed gray.

Now that I've gotten that mental block out of the way, SEM Landau Black interior paint is your best bet. That stuff is a spot-on perfect color & gloss match for the OEM plastic.

Thanks for your posts.

Hey do either of you guys have a pic of what it looks like uncovered?

I am repainting all of my interior plastic with the same black so it all matches, and I will look into the color that Jim85Iroc stated.

I was looking into getting it also from Classic Industries. Does it have the holes already cut for the seat belts? I have a six point cage in and I am using a camlock racing seatbelt so I am not using the factory belts. Just wondering if you remember.

Do you also remember how much it cost to ship?

The holes are already cut for the seat belts, domelight and sun visors. I just bought an uncovered ABS headliner from here http://tops4less.com/chevy-camaro-he...ginal-abs.html and covered it myself. The headliner was 129.99 w/ free shipping. The fit was good, but if you don't stretch the fabric completely around the inside corner edges the ABS will be exposed with the t-tops off. The fabric that I chose wasn't traditional headliner material so it was difficult to stretch around the 4 corners. I thought I did a great job until I installed it and you could see plastic when looking down at the roof. I went ahead and just cut patches for the top and it actually looks fine.

Hey RSInstaller, did the headliner come gray like the other two people said where they got it? Did it have the same or simiar texture as the rest of the interior plastic like what my3rdgen said?
That is a really good price if there is free shipping and if it is the same as what Classic Ind. sells than that may be where I will purchase it.

Thanks

Hey SK, yes the headliner was a darker gray color with an OEM-like textured finish on the face and the opposite side was smooth ABS. I searched for a long time for a new headliner and this was the cheapest price I could find. So far I'm really pleased with it. I don't have my rear trim panels back in the car, but my visors, domelight, and seatbelts have all lined up perfectly.

If you look long enough you might be able to find a factory head liner in a wreckers yard. I went to my local Pick and Pull and was able to find an Immaculate T top headliner for $9.99. Went in with no problems what so ever, didnt even need to recover it.

do you people without foam/coverings on the liner have a gap between the windsheild pillar covers and the plastic liner?
