Canvas T-Tops? Aftermarket back in the day?
Does anyone here remember the cloth/canvas t-top replacements from the ads in the back of Hot Rod/Car Craft way back in the day....late 80's? I was just thinking about how a lightweight insert would be handy when you need to lock the car up but dont have the regular t-tops with you.
Does anyone know who the manufacturer(s) was/were?
Lemme know...thanks guys

The only canvas cover I can remember was for the targa conversions(if you remember the red Z28 on "Simon & Simon").You might check with an auto interior shop that does convertible tops. They might be able to make a set for you using the glass tops as a guide. But you might have to use a set of tops for the outer rail so it will latch and seal to the window.
That being said, and this might be a stupid question, why wouldn't you have the T-tops un the storage bag in the car?

Thanks coolram62,
I've thought about having a local auto upholstery shop make some for me but I was hoping someone on here would have some info about 'em. Yes, I have the tops with me usually but the car is just used around town mostly and I leave the tops off the car most of the summer. I just thought it would be a little easier to grab the canvas tops in the event of a surprise shower or quick trip where I might want to lock up the car.
Thanks again and if anyone has any more info, let me know

I remember them from back then ,but never saw them in person. Did you try looking at ads from old Motor Trend/Car and Driver mags.? I'd be interested getting a set for my sons car. They'd be good because he has subs and an amp in the storage area.

They'd make a great theft deterrent. I mean, the T-top bag just sits in the hatch. With an electronic hatch, they simply open your door (reaching in to unlock), hit the button, and your set of original mint T-Tops plus original GM bag are gone. The Canvas tops would deter people from stealing them by making them cut through material.
