rear defroster wont work. is this a decent solution?

well when I hit the switch for the rear defroster it wil not come on so I tried to replace the switch and relay only to find that they are discontinued from the general.

I have read here and discovered that there is a relay that sends power to the defroster grid via the heavy purple wire from the switch... My question is if I wire in a new relay, to send 12V+ to that purple wire would this work? I know that I would have to either turn off the defroster once the window is clear, or find some sort of timer for it, but I need to et the defroster working.

Any help on this would be a godsend.

not to state the obvious, but check the actual connections on the hatch itself, i know mine ALWAYS come loose from the spade connectors on the hatch struts.

Sorry to hear that--much of my car's up-grades have come directly from yards. Couldn't function without them. Have you tried automotive stores: Autozone, CarQuest, Napa, etc.?

yea. no one here offers the switch which is why Im trying to get advise on my idea for a workaround. basically if I send 12V+ to the heavy purple wire will that work, or will I start popping fuses.

well all the wires are good, just checked with my DMM against voltages posted in another thread in the electrics section... So I looked closer at the actual switch/module... HA! the rocker switch has two ears on it that stick back into the module to activate the relay. well turns out the top ear was broken off so it physically couldnt turn on the defroster. I found the busted ear inside the module ratteling around and used superglue to get it to stay in place, and then coated the outter part of the joint with JB Weld. there is virtually no stress on this piece, but I really dont want to go through this all again. Hopefully it works. Im waiting for about an hour to put it in so that the JB can set (Will fully cure in 4 hours, got the quick kind of JB. )and ill thoow it in and see if it works. it should as it stopped working just one day outta the blue.

otherwise I found a couple new ones on Ebay for 45.00 apiece plus 10 for shipping!! good god. if it comes to that, Ill just wire in a realay. and take my chaneces. hell thats all the switch really is anyway. and now I know what llthe wires actually do so it would be simlpe to do.
