Oh man, those are super cool. What cars did you get them out of? They look to be 4th gen stereos. This one came out of a 91 camaro, so I think the price is more reflective of their being hard to come by.

This is probably more for the enthusiast that wants a factory correct stereo for their vehicle as opposed to someone just wanting to rock their vintage Cinderella and Whitesnake CD’s while rolling with the TTops off and ****** flowing in the wind.

Re: FS: 90-92 Camaro CD Player

The unit you have is not rare!
82-92 stereos are the all the same size!
The only thing different is the plugin pins size.
Earlier years have the big flat spade plugs in the factory plug.

I think they switched to the actual pin size in the late 80s.
I had to buy a conversion plug from Crutchfield and install in my 84
on the car side to hook into the unit. It was dated 1990 and was out of a
Pontiac because it had red LEDs.

The units in the 93 Caddy and 94 Buick were plug n play and had blue LEDs.

They dont sound bad with all new speakers and even on par with the crappy BOSE
gold in my 2011 Caddy!

I don't think it's a question of size as much as styling. Reference links below.

I'll pay the $50 - what you figure that Camaro CD player is worth - for EVERY SINGLE THIRDGEN CAMARO CD PLAYER YOU'RE READY TO SELL. Sure; even with a clean face-plate that radio with a dead CD is priced pretty high (& those 2 busted clips on the left side are a pretty big deal too ) but telling someone that a rare part isn't rare (for no apparent reason ??) seems kinda' foolish,...... your just posting/sharing BAD info.

I'm absolutely certain that you have never - AND WILL NEVER IN YOUR LIFETIME - buy a Thirdgen Camaro CD player for $50. That Camaro CD player was installed for a couple years in exactly 1 car model & it's is worth about 50 of those POS Y2K era Chevy radios that your promoting - even with a dead CD player. Those Chevy CD players were factory installed in just about every late nineties/ mid 2000's Chevy car or truck ever made; why do you think they are priced @ $15 each and every bone-yard has 35 of them available ??

P.S. for the record; anyone that is OK with their radios being installed like this should probably not be handing out audio advise.

Originality means a lot to some people. You can get 4th gen radios cheap.. yep. They look out of place on an otherwise stock car.

Re: FS: 90-92 Camaro CD Player

If your asking' if I'm the guy that was bitchin' after I sent off my Typhoon CDM CD/EQ for upgrades to another member here that stole it ?? Ya', that was me a couple years back. I now recall that you're comments regarding the theft at that time were about as classy as the radio installations that you pictured here in this thread. So; you're OK with people stealing parts from other members ?? Or, are you just having a problem understanding the 4-letter word RARE?? Since you can seems to comprehend that 4 letter word let me help: A Delco CDM CD/EQ head unit and a 91-92 Camaro CD player are both RARE radios; the radio mounted upside down in your RAT is NOT rare. Not hard to follow - does that clear it up for you ??

Mr. Perfect ? I don't feel that's an accurate description of me, but if that's how you feel, so be it. If you've ever read thru my posts you will see that I'm quick to admit when I'm wrong; NEVER seen that from you, even when the info you post here is provably false. ( still pushing that crap about the factory installed 9-bolt in your 84 Camaro ?? ) I don't' make a habit of posting falsehoods and when I comment on things I do so because I have some actual experience/knowledge about the topic under discussion. Was this Camaro radio worth $300 ?? No; not to me & I described why in my post last night but once again; You totally missed the point and shown yourself to be an asshat.

Rare........Nah!
It's OK to be wrong now and then dude,..... It's not OK to be ignorant about facts, particularly AFTER someone that actually knows what they are talking about provides you with accurate info.
That Camaro CD player was installed for a couple years in exactly 1 car model & it's is worth about 50 of those POS Y2K era Chevy radios that your promoting - even with a dead CD player. Sorry Dany,... This is the last time I'll post about the stupidity polluting your classified add; good luck with finding a new owner for this RARE Camaro CD head-unit !

Just mentioning the OP and any other interested party that that $300 is a LOT of scratch for a BROKEN 3rd gen radio rare or not !

I am sure the OPs car isnt going to Barrett Jackson anytime soon so who cares what 3rd gen radio is in there?

I also WASN'T posting about a 4th gen. radio either.
So re-read the entire post before you comment!

I read the entire post just fine... your insistent pestering of the OP is why I chimed in in the first place.

Your commentary has been irrelevant at best. Your lack of knowledge about the stock stereos, their values, rarity, etc, is evident.

If the CD player worked, I'd pay $300 for that super rare radio in a heartbeat!!!! Been looking for one and they are impossible to find!

Re: FS: 90-92 Camaro CD Player

Yeah man, such a bummer that it didn’t work. I was looking forward to it, but decided to move on instead of putting money into it. I luckily found a sweet JVC KS-RX910 recently and I’m very happy with it, so while it would’ve been nice, it’s not the biggest deal. I’m tentatively working on a deal, but if that doesn’t come thru, and if you want to try your luck with it, I could pm you when I know for sure and we can work out a deal if you’d like.

It’s possible to change out the CD drive with one from a later GM, not too difficult. Rare radio

Yes you can swap out the cd mechanism from another unit but it has to be from the same era.Normally any mechanism from a cdm type unit will work but that’s not always the case.I tried to swap one into an 89-92 style Pontiac CD player and the connectors were too short so it didn’t work

Re: FS: 90-92 Camaro CD Player

My 91 Formula had a CD player in it as well when I got it, also with the CD portion not working. Would be interested in seeing if it can be fixed as well as I’ve heard these are rare also in these cars and plan on keeping it around.

Correct, you can swap out the defective CD drive with one from GM’s 2nd generation of CD players using the Delco-Panasonic drives, between ‘94 to ‘97. The attrition rate for the 1st gen GM Delco-Clarion CD drives is so high that finding one that’s still operational is highly unlikely. The GM CD drives from ‘98 on are not compatible.

The good news is that the ‘94 to ‘97 GM Delco-Panasonic CD drives can still be found, are relatively cheap, and are more dependable than the 1st gen Delco-Clarion CD drives.
