For $5,400...
http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t...eyes34/Camaro/
I already posted this car in another thread, but that was about the color...not about the value of the car...
'89 IROC 350
The Good
-Has posi and rear discs (did all 350s come with these in '89? Just found out from a friend that t-top 350 '89s didn't have G92...and all these years, that's what I wanted!)
-73,000 miles, Carfax is clean
-Repainted 4 years ago, supposedly well done, in original Bright Blue Metallic
-As I said in the other thread, it has everything I want except PW.
The Bad
-Needs rubber...won't pass safety
-Driver's seat is ripped all the way up the side, but supposedly can be repaired. I know an excellent trim guy, so I'm hoping...
-Rear bumper damaged from parking lot skirmish...would need to be resprayed...
-Carpet appears acceptable, but faded.
And that appears to be about all...
I've been looking for an IROC for oh, I don't know, 12 years now? Now, the RS is almost 100% finished and I have storage for another car. I've debated for years between a clean, perfect 30-40k mile original, or a more used one that's easy to afford but may need a few things. I've come down to the point now where I've decided even most clean original often need paint, because the paint was just sooo bad. This one won't need that.
Is this a good deal? I looked at this morning the same car as a black '88 with power everything, t-tops and 69k on it. He's $400 cheaper, but he's a jerk (a previous customer of mine...I'm a Sales Manager for a Dodge store), and I like blue better. However, this blue IROC is 3 hours away from me...the black is 15 minutes.
Thoughts are appreciated. This car was up on eBay...I'm not sure what the top bid got to (I was not a bidder...didn't like the fact it had no PW at the time), but I don't think it even broke $5k....

Besides the obvious issues with the seat, rear bumper, and needing new tires, what else do you feel is wrong with it for the money? Need some feedback here, if you're willing...

Re: For $5,400...
imo the price is a little too high. Have you seen the car in person? I'd take a look at both cars in person... Look in the obvious spots for rust even though the blue iroc was repainted 4 yrs ago doesnt mean its rust free. Both are woth taking a look at, I'm not sureabout 5k tho... it would be worth 4k at the most to me...

Re: For $5,400...
You pretty much nailed it... Tires $600-650. Seat covers are what? another $500? Then there's the bumper, and the overall dirty nature of the car, I wouldn't subtract for that, even though it's annoying. What bugs me most is how the hood doesn't fit right. How hard was it hit? Or was the body man that did the paint just lazy? Either way it's not a good thing.
For that much money, and that kind of mileage, I expect a pretty decent car. That car in very nice condition with good paint, tires, flawless interior, etc isn't worth $7,000. It'd be worth closer to $6,000, a good price would be about $5,500. Subtract a thousand, maybe more for the flaws mentioned earlier, and pretty soon you've got a $4,000 car. I'd be happy finding a car like that for about $3,500. $4,500 might be fair, but it'd be far from a good price. If it were me, I'd hold out for a deal. They're always popping up on craigslist.

Re: For $5,400...
Drew,
I hear you...that hood line is bugging me too. But, can't they be adjusted?
For what its worth, can anyone show me a better deal on a comparable car, for sale right now? If so, I'm interested...

Re: For $5,400...
Jason, I don't think it's a rip off for $5400. Personally though, I'd feel better if it had original paint. Seems like a nice, fairly low mile car - why would it require a paint job? I'd probe into that.
The other thing is, people on TGO seem to get their cars for near free. WTF, I'm on TGO and I never find awesome deals like that.
If it's the car you want and it all looks kosher, see if you can knock his price down abit.
Thanks for those pics BTW.

Re: For $5,400...
There is some adjustment. Enough that an amateur could bolt it back on in the wrong position. What bothers me is that it's out of adjustment and it could be from a front end collision. I also would be asking why it's got a 2.8L intake duct. Combine that with the hood alignment and the repaint and I'm thinking front end collision.

Charlie,
No prob on the pics...lemme know if you're interested to go further with the guy. And I agree...everyone on TGO always seem to get a steal except me
Drew,
Does that intake tube look like its from a 2.8? Its been 8 years since I owned mine. I assume that looks narrower than the proper one?

Re: For $5,400...
One thing that seems to have a lot to do with the value of these cars is where you live. In Mass, clean no-winter thirdgens are NOT easy to find, and can command good money. Whether or not the car is worth what you're paying, I really don't know, but if it's clean underneath and obviously not a winter driven car, it is worth a lot more in MA than it would be worth down south.

Re: For $5,400...
Well, unfortunately I could not get the trailer brakes working on the trailer to go out and get the car...so I have not seen it yet, still (its 3 hours from here...if I'm heading out there, I'm going to be equipped to bring it home).
I appreciate all the advice on here, and will look the car over closely. I had already offered the guy $5k previously...we'll see how it looks when I get out there.
