My 1985 IROC has the side moldings that are rivited on. It dosn't have rpo B84. Are these after market moldings?

Re: 1985 door molding?

When you say it doesn't have RPO B84, do you mean it's not listed on the SPID (the label with all the RPO codes commonly found in the console or rear storage compartment}?

If that's the case, does the VIN on the SPID match the VIN at the base of the windshield on your ride?

Re: 1985 door molding?

Thanks for the reply. The spid matches the vin. I have the moulding but the spid doesn't have B84. I have read that B9K is for the moulding to rear door, It does have B9K but I have seen spid's with both B84 and B9K.

Re: 1985 door molding?

RPO B84 is for "Black Body Side Mouldings". These are the side mouldings that are along the middle of the doors. They are rubber, applied with adhesive, and are there to help prevent parking lot bumps and bruises (door dings). They are not also always black. The colour is determined by another RPO such as 81Q for example, which is "Moulding Colour - Bright Red".

Others mouldings that are on the IrocZ are the air dam, door and rocker extensions. They are applied to the car with a similar method you described (mostly bolted on). That RPO is W62 and is called the "Areo Package". And I don't think there is a delete option on those so I'd say all IrocZ's would have them. And again, their colour is determined by another RPO such as WW8 for "Areo Package - Bright Red" for example.

Regarding RPO B9K. It has multiple meanings depending on what years it was used (as do many RPO's). That one has three different descriptions. You need to be sure which one applies to your ride. In this case it isn't for moulding to rear door (or "Ornamentation" that also often comes). It's actually just another RPO that stands for "Bodyside Moulding" or "B/S MLDG" as it's often written. Similar to RPO B84, but without the mention of black.

I hope this helps to clarify things.

Re: 1985 door molding?

Thanks IROCTOPLESS. That makes sense since this is a 1985 IROC and there was only black.

Re: 1985 door molding?

A member here has an original 85 IROC that has the the B9K rpo on his spid and it doesn't have body side mouldings. In this thread look at 89resto's spid and IROC. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...rd-owners.html So B9K must be for something else.
