55M - pretty sure that car would've been painted gold on the lower exterior.

Re: rpo codes 84 ta
I got your email. First off...to answer your above question.
Your RPO codes should be on the underside of the center console compartment lid. Its called a SPID sticker and it will have several lines of three letter/number codes on it along with your paint code and your VIN. You can take a picture of that and post it and we can help decode it. (Don't post your whole VIN if you do so.) Or you can just list them. Or if you want there is a RPO decoder on the mainpage which you can use and decode them on your own.
To answer your second question about posting a thread you are in the right place with the History/Restoration catagory. Especially if you want to put it back together original. You can post a new thread by simply going to the top of the board and right about the announcements there is a button. Click on that button and you can start a new thread that has to do with whatever you wish to discuss.
While I am a regular on these forums, I don't know it all. My knowledge on cars is spread all over the map from Model A Fords to the High end exotics. Even on these third gen cars there are others on here that can answer some questions better than I can. So don't be afraid to ask others as well. The reason why I have a bunch of info on 84s is because I have the PHS information, and the fact I own one that is original. I also have access to a library that has a signifcant Automotive collection.
Good luck with your car. I can answer any other questions best I can.

Heres what I got for ya. Keep in mind some of these might be a little off because of the ever changing information but considering I got these from PHS, the TGO RPO decoder, and Jeff's (WildJeff) decode of early third gen birds, they should be pretty accurate.

Re: rpo codes 84 ta
Thank you. That is very helpful. That describes the car perfectly. It still has the original paint. It's born and raised in southern Ca. so there is no rot (so far),and it was garaged most of it's life. The original owner is an old friend of mine. He did'nt want to sell it, so he gave it to me ,if I promised to take care of it. I think I'm going to have some fun bringing it back to it's youth again. Thanks again for your help.

No problem. Glad I could be of help. Also the folks at earlythirdgen.com/forums can be of help when looking for parts, information etc. You will find several of us from here me included over there. It is dedicated to the early third generation firebirds of 1982-1984. There is a ton of information and parts and so on here as well.

Hello Forum..I am a new member here and just getting back into Trans Ams...I have had 13 of them in my previous younger days and just recently bought #14 for my 17 yo. daughters first car...So I hope I am not stepping on the original posters toes by jumping in here but I too have some questions about my new 1984 Trans Am that the RPO decoder could not answer..Here are the 7 codes it could not decipher so any help would be appreciated...

WS1
WU1

I have learned the meaning of a couple of these from this post, but there are also others that have me baffled for instance this is the one that is stumping me the most
59U---Primary color exterior, Orange Met. (92)
Again I apologize if I have stepped on some toes here and if so please direct/move my post to a more appropriate place

WS1: Pontiac Excitement Plus (this is one of many savings packages if you order certain options on the same car I have the same thing with WS5 on my own 84 TA)
WU1: Instrument Light Shutoff Switch
WY5: Special Handling Package without Limited slip (Should not have G80 on your sticker)
YT9: Reinforced Doors as mentioned somewhere above.
55P: 55 is Gold Color P is location. From what I have 55P stands for Gold Turbo Finned Aluminum Wheels (N24)
59L: Color on lower part of the car 59 is Beige
59U: Color on upper part of the car 59 is Beige
I used PHS documentation to get this information as well as searching the threads for WU1 which was answered elsewhere.
You seem to have a one color car from the factory. The car appears to be repainted from what I see of the Grille inserts on the front. Those were Black on all cars.
Also just to let you know, you will probably find more information here:
earlythirdgen.com/forums
It is dedicated to the 82-84 Firebirds you will find a bunch of us from here on TGO over there as well, myself included.
Hope this helps.
