84 TA RPO questions

I recently picked up an 84 Trans Am that I am going to restore. I ran the RPOs on it, but some came up not in database. Can anybody help me out? Here they are: 6UK, 19M, MX0, WS8, E6N, QHW, and 7UJ.

Can anybody help me out with this thing? It's gonna be a sweet car! I'll post some pictures when I get them.

MX0 : 700R4
WS8 : performance package
E6N : speedo gear, vss hardware

Those are basic definitions, try searching the board, or go to www.yahoo.com and search for each of your unknowns. Most unknown rpo's have been identified either here or elsewhere.

You can go to https://www.thirdgen.org/cgi-bin/rpo/viewall.pl and scroll thru the list of RPO's in the decoder. Generally they're grouped, so you can see what codes are around the one you're looking for so you can get an idea of what the code might mean.

Thanks, man! I really appreciate that. You answered all the questions. Any info on 6UK? That's my last one.

One more thing - how many of these cars came with the functional ram-air hood? My car ahs the functional cowl induction ram-air thing and all the components. The hood is dented pretty bad, so I want to know how hard it might be to find another functional one for it. Thanks!

As I stated I gave basic definitions, or rather educated guesses.

WS8 - PRICED ORDER ACKNOWLEDGED
Never was a "performance package"

Funny how most all the other WS? codes are various performance packages, but WS8 is 'price order acknowledged' whatever that translates to in english...

E6N - SLEEVE, SPEEDOMETER GEAR
Not "speedo gear, vss hardware"

I would say that a speedo gear sleeve would qualify as being components of the speedometer system, or vehical speed system, or as I stated it speedo gear or VSS hardware.

MX0 - TRANSMISSION, AUTOMATIC, OVERDRIVE (MERCHANDISING OPTION)

Or simply 700R4.

If you want to post more in depth information or more accurate information, feel free, if my answers are far enough off that they make absolutely no sense and are no where close (as you make them out to be) then perhaps all RPO requests should go to you directly since you're the expert.

WS8 ~ Priced Order Confirmation

My guess is that when the dealer submits the order they have the option when the factory confirms the order to get back a confirmation listing the prices of the options they have selected and a dealer invoice amount will pay when the car comes in.

This would allow them to communicate this to a customer who has special ordered a car and let them know if the options they requested where available and the price they are going to pay for them.

I also "guess" that this RPO was mixed in with other W series RPO's because the other W series included many option packages that were available, some with package discounts.

Before this post goes one reply further I would like to go on record as stating that I find the information from both of you (Drew and 82Recarto) very valuable, and both of you to be great contributors to RPO mysteries and RPO information.

Myself I am working on a very deep and accurate database for RPO's and I could use both of your help. I hope this effort of us all working together doesn't go South.

I have a very basic question on the MXO RPO.

Is that MX0 as in the number zero?

Or MXO as in the letter before P?

I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, cause really all you did was give more accurate information. My point is that I was giving him a general idea of what the RPO's were that he couldn't find elsewhere. They weren't meant to be taken as gospel, and anyone looking at how they were presented, should have been able to notice they weren't written in GM, but in my own words.

If you want to list EVERY rpo and put them on a website so that everyone has them available it would be helpful. The thirdgen RPO decoder is flawed, everyone who's been around here very long knows it, but its not a high priority. Anytime its mentioned its a complaint that its not accurate, or that it doesn't contain every code, there's never any comments concerning how nice it is to be able to decode some of the RPO's.

Updating the RPO decoder is just another thankless task.

After spending the last four days entering data and just now closing in on the A's I can see how it might be a thankless task however theres another side to the coin.

No other third gen site is as large as this one. People trust this site and although it may seem unlikely at times people appreciate this site.

As an example: A year ago I sent in a correction on a V73 not being a fixed antenna. A year later it still shows up as that. The problem comes in that this board has a ton of members. That incorrect info is listed on their personal sites.

That info is spidered into all kinds of search engines. If you start researching the net you will find this info has spread to dozens if not hundreds of sites. And unfortunately one of the major sources of this incorrect info is this site.

To me it's one of those "do it right or don't do it type things". A site with this kind of power has to take the responsibility that goes along with it's popularity.

Look how many trivial post of "what is RPO---" if the database were complete and correct. Then we could move on to other historical facts and trying to decipher what the heck the abbreviations mean........LOL.

I agree that if you're going to do it, doing it right or not at all, but Dirk has people that want classifieds, he's got a full time job, a family, and a life outside of this site. You've got two admins on this site, Dirk and Brad. I havent seen Brad around much in the last year or two, but I'm sure he has similar distractions as Dirk.
If it were as simple as going in and editing a few lines and then reuploading it, I'm sure the VIN decoder would be done, but its programmed.

From my point of view, thirdgen.org is just one of many places to check for information. Its not entirely accurate but I haven't found a resource that is.

BTW my favorite messed up RPO on the decoder here is AAA... Every thirdgen should have this RPO, and its the first RPO on the card. It stands for "standard equipment" but the decoder lists it as "manual seat adjuster, 4 way" or somethign to that effect. LOL

Duuuuuuuuude........ I didn't know that...........LOL. That's how I entered it into my database. I am cross referencing with 3/4 databases and all have that desc. listed.

After more research I find it as: AAA

4 way seat adjuster
All window tint
Standard Equipment
Standard Safety Equipment aka Standard Safety Features

Thank you for this info, I can see this isn't going to be easy. 2 sources have a year range of 91 - 98 on the Standard Safety Feature description. I'm wondering if this RPO didn't change over the years?

I jst hp I dnt strt tlking, in rpo sent.

Thats why RPO's suck... the definitions are cryptic, GM changes them frequently, etc... Most of the ones people can't find, don't matter one way or the other unless they're ordering parts in which case the GM computer just lists the various RPO's for the different parts.
