Weird thing about my old RS....

I've mentioned this in a couple posts, but have never gotten any response.

My old '89 Camaro RS had the ERS sound system, but never had the ERS dash logo. I know it never did because, well, I was with the car every day of my life until 4 weeks ago Did some '89s not have the logo for some reason? I think the car was built in April '89, so it wasn't an early or late model that may have not gotten one due to availability...

So did someone forget to throw the logo on? I wouldn't be surprised...it came from the factory with a hair stuck in the paint on the hood and a loose exhaust heat shield that rattled so bad, you couldn't miss it. On the test drive, the salesperson claimed the rattle was the magnetic dealer plate...

Ah, the memories of that car. That's all I miss about it though... To think I owned a Camaro in which the minivan next to me could chew me up and spit me out makes me realize selling it and not keeping it wasn't such a bad idea...

I bought a '89 RS new, it had the ers decal on the dash, my car was built in October 1988. It also suffered some detail issues, like paint runs on the driver side fender, it also had a rear side marker light socket un-hooked and hidden behind a trim panel. it too was a 2.8, I only had it two years and I traded it for a new '91 RS with a 305 TBI and 5-speed. So yours had it...I wonder if my car was just a fluke then, as I have never seen an '89 RS without it!! The more I think about it, the more I realize my car may have been "1 of 1"

I found yet another Formula to spark my interest...'89 305 TPI, t-tops, light blue with grey rockers, loaded one owner. Just sold the lady a '99 T/A, and this is the trade in She bought the car new from here. With 103k miles, lousy paint, a little rust, but a mint interior and drivetrain, I should be able to swipe it for $1,000 I haven't decided yet, as I want to drive it for a couple days first.

So can anyone here attest to what its like to be 22 and have three cars??? I think I'm crazy

Why do people insist on buying L03's when L98's are easy to find. *shakes head in disapproving manner*

got news for ya Drew, L98's hear are rare.. at least none are for sale anyways.. if there was a L98 for sale. I would have bought it over the RS. But such is life.. :lala: I'll just make mine better than a L98.. it'll just take a little while Heck. I would have been happy with a LB9 if there was one..

Drew,

Is your L03 comment referring to my potential car?? Its an LB9 like I said...not an L03.

I wish I could get an L98, but hell, for $1,000, I ain't gonna complain! If I do buy it, its a solid, documented original car I can drive for another 2 years, then go through fully if I decide to. I can deal with a little rust to have a rather tight, original TPI.

Jason you are forgetting that I am 20 and have 3 cars! Hummm 83 Z28 L69(in restoration) 00 T/A and a 94 Eldorado! Sorry:lala: hehe. I went out side and looked at my new dash and a section of my old one. YOU SHOULD HAVE LOOKED WHEN YOU WERE HERE!!! The logo is held on by 2 little studs.....soooo this means that something odd is with your old car. Why would it not have the logo??? Odd. I guess it was made from left over parts

DAMN! I've gotta start reading slowly... LOL I blame it on excessive caffine... thats it... LOL Sorry...

L98's aren't hard to find, you just might have to wait a while and shop around a bit.

IROCZTWENTRYGR8,

Hehe...yeah, I coulda. I didn't even realize my car was weird until I was 18 and poking my head in other third gens in salvage yards. I had just gotten the car from my mom, and I noticed how EVERY RS I poked my head into had the dash logo (and obviously several other Camaros did too). I know it never fell off because as Matt mentioned, there were never any mounting holes for it. I kinda liked the dash without it!!

Its good to see at least someone else had a car in which the production worker forgot to add the logo Guess I didn't have my "1 of 1" after all

The Formula is coming home with me tomorrow night, and I'll have it through Wednesday. If it all checks out (and I find storage so I can keep the Grand Am as a winter car), I think I might FINALLY have my V8 third gen

Well it was probably one of two things. Either The plant (look at you window sticker and see where it came from cuz i know you still have it) had a shortage of ERS dashes and decided to use non ERS ones thinking who's gonna know or care instead of holding up production. Or the guy who was loading the dashes on the line and setting them up for every car in a row was drunk. What holiday is in april??? hehe. I guess you can think your car was "special"!

Oh and as for you geting your V8 third gen....Sorry it will still be slower then my 83!

IROCZTWENTYGR8,

I told him his car, stock for stock, will be faster than the one I think I may get...its true

An L69 5 speed did 0-60 in just under 7 sec, and the 1/4 in 15 flat. An LB9 automatic did 0-60 around 7.1-7.2 on a good day, and probably a 15.5 1/4 mile is the best you could hope for.

I ain't buying it for speed If I do buy it, I'm buying it because it would be a very sweet car when fixed up. Hell, it is after all the "poster Formula" for thirdgen.org!!!
