It doesn't have one and I want to see what all the car has, if I give the VIN# to a dealer or somewhere, can I get one, or even straight from GM? It is the '88 GTA.

As far as I know you can't get one anywhere. I know a guy in my local area who does professional printing and graphics and such and he can match ANY type of material. If I can get a good SPI sheet out of a junk car he could probably make a reproduction for you using your VIN and RPO codes. To do it though we would have to have proof of your RPO from a source like GM of PHS so we don't print any fake SPI sheets for anyone wanting to "add" RPO's.

Would anybody be interested in this?

I would definately be looking for one. Would a good pic of the origional do? As you can see mine has seen better days.

No we are going to need a real one in fair condition in our hands. We need to get the exact color, texture, size, and shape 100% correct. They should run between $35-$55 each.....

Selling reproduction SPID's isnt a bad idea, except that for $40 I'd sure rather sit around for a few hours playing with my scanner, photoshop, and my inkjet printer with photo paper to make my own with whatever RPO's I want.

Of course since I dont show my car with either of the gloveboxes open, its just for my enjoyment anyway.

Well I'm talking about concourse quality reproductions and I for one am willing to pay up to $55 for one if I didn't have my original so I imagine that others would too. I won't even start this venture though until I get enough interested people and even then it's all on my own time because I would not be making a penny, it would just be a service to my fellow car guys and gals out there...

I ment for proof that I had the options on my car. From what I have seen the material of the RPO stickers varies from year to year. Mine is paper, I have seen some that are like a plastic matl.

Ok, yeah. Sure, a real one is good enough for me to work from. I too have seen the regular paper one's and some like mine that have kind of a shiny almost wax paper texture to it. This is going to be where it takes alot of research before we start to make sure that they are concourse quality. We are going to have to know exactly what they looked like for every year so we get it perfect. The guy I know is VERY good at what he does and he has reproduced stuff for me before so I know he can do it to appear 100% factory.

Hmmmm..... I'm thinking that shiny adhesive paper is called an Avery Label for about 20 cents and I'm pretty sure I've seen Vader pull off a pretty convincing reproduction of various labels.

Don't get me wrong... I realize your time is worth something but why would we need a concourse quality reproduction RPO label when 3rd Gen cars aren't even old enough yet to warrant a concourse quality restoration? And if they did which shows are judging by these standards?

I think you have a good idea and could be a valuable service but for example the Pontiac Historical Society charges only $35.00 for an exact Factory Reprinted Invoice and this is on original N.O.S. invoices they acquired.

You are missing the point, if you are going to do something do it right not half-assed or don't do it at all that's why I say "concourse quality", anything less just won't be right. I don't know about you but "I" judge my car that way. I would never put anything on my car that is not perfect, maybe some would but not me and I don't think any car guy would unless it's a temporary thing....

I didn't miss your point. I am extremely picky on my car as well. My point was that due to so many RPO labels being missing it would seem that they ARE temporary.

I would hate to crack my console lid or have the hinges break and have to replace it AND the concourse quality $55.00 reproduction RPO label as well. Know what I mean?

Again..... it does seem your service would be valuable.

I removed my original labels in my formula and my V6... Mostly because I was replacing the panels they were glued to... I show the formula (generally) once a year and no one knows its not there... Considering I could throw it on the scanner and take it into photo shop to remove any smudges and whatnot then print it out on my color printer and have it look identical to stock and paste it in the glovebox for the once a year that someone might want to look at it, I don't see paying more than $5 for one in the near future.

However, if what they say is true and I can't get the underhood emissions labels for my car (91 L98) then I'd pay $10 for each of those labels...

Offering reproduction this or that is fine, but offereing a reproduction of somethign that people are actually going to see would be more valuable to me than something thats just for my own peace of mind.

Oh, Pontiac Hisotrical Services. I've already gotten a packet from them and a not so good window sticker reproduction but they did not offer a factory invoice printed on original paper at the time, I just ended up with an ugly black and white copy of my cars factory invoice

Somewhere in your packet is an offer to reprint either a quality window sticker or factory invoice. This was done on original stock and it was offered by someone "outside" of PHS. Yes, it was "services" instead of "society"........ my bad.

I offer the following information as just that; information. I'm not slamming anyone for bad spelling, so no flames please.

I think you guys mean concours, not concourse; as in "concours d'elegance". It's pronounced "con-coor", like the beer, only drop the s on the end. If I'm not mistaken, it translates to "competition of elegance", and as most of you already know, it is the name of a fancy-pants car show that started about fifty years ago.

Anyway, I just thought you'd like to know.

Actually either is correct. Concourse is the proper English spelling. Concours is French and would obviously have a different pronunciation.

It is pronounced kon-kors as in golf course and means basically "to assemble" more specifically,

An assembly; a gathering formed by a voluntary or spontaneous moving and meeting in one place.

Reckon' it depends on what neck of the woods you're from....... LOL.

You are correct Mike. Since the term was used in relation to the quality of a car related item, I assumed we were referring to the car show, which does use the French spelling and pronunciation.

Now...what the heck were we talking about??? Oh yeah, SPID labels. Give it a few more years and some restoration parts company out there will start manufacturing them.
