Original Headlight covers on SC's?
Hey,
I was just browsing through my 86 Camaro Assembly Manual looking for some stuff, and came across a page where it was shown how to install headlight covers?? The car in the "picture" was a sports coupe, and the cover had three little tabs on the "bottom" that went into three holes in the front of the headlight pockets.
Were these actually an option? I've never seen them nor heard of them - and thought it was pretty neat.
Anyone know?
Ken

Ken,
Those were GM export covers. I had a set on my '83 that I bought from Graff Chevrolet's (Grand Prairie, TX) Parts Dept in 1983.
Hot Rod magazine had published the P/N's so I was able to order a set, the price being around $35 each. They did fit better than any of the aftermarket types, and there were also covers released for the '85-up fascia as well....
I don't know if these are still current P/N's, but I have the labels that I saved in my old Camaro scrapbook:
82-84: 16501949 & 16501950
85-92: 14081321 & 14081322
Hopefully these numbers are still in the computer.

Hey Greg, thanks for the info.
Actually Im pretty sure the p/n's are in the assembly manual, I wasn't gonna order them I was mostly curious if these were ever available as I had never heard of it before - and obviously they did as you were able to get a set. Were they just clear covers?
I looked at the drawing, and I agree that it seemed like a much better way of securing them, even though personally I'd be a little reluctant to drill holes in my light pockets LOL
Thanks again,
Ken

They had a slight curve molded into them that matched the curvature of the bumper, while all of the aftermarket types are simply bent pieces of flat plastic that make for an awkward fit at best.

I had a set of the factory covers on my then new 82 Z-28. They had to be specially ordered as they were "for export only". They were clear Lexan.
