Special Ordered IROC Z

Hey

I have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro with the RPO code 1AZ : Order Modification, Orders Sold (or: CUSTOMER ORDERED VEHICLE). I am wondering what thats means. Was my car ordered with somthing special. When I bought it the person said that it was ordered from the factory with a corvette engine, Being the 5.7. Could this be true. I have the LB9 engine RPO code and VIN#. Well anyways what does the 1AZ RPO code mean. What was my car ordered special with. All my RPO codes are posted on my website.

from doing a few minutes of searching i believe that it means that it is a special order car or someone ordered the car the way they wanted it instead of buying it off the showroom floor but i could be wrong.

Yup. The buyer ordered it instead of buying a dealer car.

Car: 3 3rd Gen F-bodies and 7 others
Engine: 305 CFI, 350 TPI & 3.8 Turbo V-6
Transmission: all automatics (stock)
Amazing how back in the mid 80's that everyone thought if it had a TPI on it that it was a 'Vette engine!!
It is only a 305 TPI!!
That said, That's a sharp 85. I love the Silver ones and would like to add one to my collection! :hail:

wow one more silver iroc-i think there are about 5 of us with original silver cars-what you were told about the vette motor is (unfortunately)utter bullcrap-but who cares? the 1az code just meant someone ordered it the way they wanted it and waited till it was built. lemme see, i didnt check your site for codes, but some semi-oddball options that didnt end up on a dealer ordered car were like, roll up windows, no a/c,am radio, quiet sound group, vinyl interior, if any of those type options are present, thats what is the difference-usually. will check codes later on the site. thing is my 85 has that code on it but i didnt order it that way-i just saw it in the showroom and it wasnt fetchin the pumped up 20k that the dealers were scalpin people for-and bought it. wanted it so much that i traded my 84 z and took a beating on it cuz i was still in the payments on it. i think someone ordered my car and then backed out or saw the paint quality and jumped ship. fu*kin nice car though ya got there.

Yeah , I have roll down windows. The only power options I have are hatch release and power locks. I also have AC. I Think the car was ordered with all the go fast goodies avaliable in 1985. I have the LB9 with the better cam that allowes the redline to be at 5500, instead of 5000. I have the G92 option that gives me the 3.42 rear end.

I am not sure of a couple of the RPO codes though and would like to know what they are for. I am looking for E92, GC5, W82, Z31. I cant seem to find those RPO anywhere and I want to know what they are. If anyone else has any of those codes tell me. And if u know what they are can u please post them. Thanks

in 85 that was the only cam available. same with the redline. im fairly certain that 3.42 was the standard iroc tpi powered rear end ratio.the shift from 3.73 (never a factory offered ratio with a tpi motor-not in 85 prolly the later years also)happened because gm was so proud of the newfound bottom end torque available with fuel injection. L69 cars still could get 3.73's. i just remembered that i have a 3" thick camaro part application guide that i got from a chevrolet parts guy in 86 or so when they went to either computer or microfiche at the dealers-all the codes for all gm cars are printed in the first pages. i will look and see what i can find out for you. i would say that based on the options your car has, those roll up windows were the reason for the special order. i think the same about mine its got a/c but also hand crank windows,am (only)non digital radio, and with the radio choice came the cool round console clock. i remember going from dealer to dealer hunting an iroc that i could afford, and that was the hook-all dealer ordered cars back then came loaded with all the power windows, locks and accompanying caca. all this was just before the introduction of "option packages" seen as the norm these days-try getting ac and hand crank windows today-i dont even think there is an option for that combo, is there? anybody know? 20k seemed to be the norm-they thought that they could get that price and usually did-hence not much in the way of discounts off msrp. found mine stickered at 14600 bux marked up to 16k. i will ck the book and post answers. later

Car: 85 Camaro
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700r4
E9Z SPEEDOMETER KEY (DELETE)
G92 AXLE REAR RATIO, PERFORMANCE, not sure what ratio
GU6 actual AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
W82 I can not find off-hand
Z31 Is a sport package for the Lumina

GC5 & GC6 are the only ones I need, I am not able to find them anywhere, I even tried several dealerships and they cant find them in the books or on the computer, So I don't know where to look for them next.

hey-those arent rpo codes-they are codes that tie engines and trannies together and stripes and colors etc etc-on the sticker if you can tell me whereabouts those codes are located-like 3rd line down 5th from the left-like that i can tie em into the meaning thru this book-i can find it without the location as it is printed-just going to take me longer. lemme know i will be deciphering it in the meantime-later

Hello all,I recently added an'86 Iroc to my collection(I have an '87 too)...I plan on attempting a close to stock restore as it needs slight body work,(but it's got a straight body)it had blown head gaskets when I got it,and I picked it up dirt cheap, with all original TPI,wheels and everything.(it even starts and drives around the block)Compared to my '87,this '86 has nothing, not even the power hatch release button!,no cruise, roll up windows, manual locks, etc. Not one power option,it was dealer ordered, yes it is a B4Z,w/3.23 gears and aluminum drums,LB9,and that's about it.I even noticed on the title the car only weighs 2994 lbs....my '87 weighs in at 33xx and change. My Q's are: How many Irocs came so stripped down? It's got the top of the line engine for '86,and really nothing else but the 16 in. aluminum wheels and a rear security roll down...woo hoo....I kinda like the car because I think it'll turn out great,it just seems like an oddball compared to my '87 and most other power everything Irocs most people have. Also,I ran all my RPO's and everything but a few came back.I don't know: GC5,GC6(like alot of us have),and B2G,D6F,E7Z,629,and 88P...plus the bottom lines of the RPO sheet have printed: BCCC WA
L8748 U8748 62C
.....just like that......any help appreciated!! Thanks Guys!

I'm not going to explain your unknown RPO codes, thats every thirdgen owners personal quest, and they're fairly easy to find. However, I will explain the last few lines at the bottom of the SPID. The BCCC is the paint type, base coat clear coat, then the codes after that are the color codes, and the last code is the interior color.

I had an 85 z-28 with a tpi 305, and 3.23 open rear end. i think this is the standard rear end, because i didn't have rpo g92, and g92 probably was for 3.42 gears

The 85 Z28 I bought used off the lot at Toyota of Homestead must have been ordered special. It had the vinyl seats, manual windows, ERS cassette stereo, ac and that was about it. Oh, LG4
I also ordered my 91 L98 Z28.
