1988 Camaro Sport Coupe w/Low Wing - How rare?

I've heard a few conflicting stories and i'd really like the truth on this one - as far as i can tell, my 1988 Camaro Sport Coupe is a fairly rare care b/c it has the low-rise wing that GM only ran for about 1/2 of 1988 - is this true? Do i have something worth preserving?

Only if you like it. It was a 1/2 year option on the 88 SC. It is not considered a collectible feature since it came on the base car. I took my 88 to a body shop and had the rear spoiler replaced with the standard spoiler. Looked much better.

Here are some production figures:

1988 Sport Coupe -- 66,605
Aerowing Spoiler (RPO D81) -- 59,271

It appears most '88 SC's got the low-rise spoiler. Only the early production SC's did not get them. Tooling and fabrication of the new spoiler was not ready when the '88's were released for production.

The D80 spoiler was used on all IROC coupes in '88, the Sport coupe used the D80 from the start of Production(8-17-87) untill mid-November 1987 when the D81 was phased into production. the D81 continued to be used untill very late in the model year when they switched back to the D80. I have a fairly late '88 in my file built 6-24-88 that still had the D81 the VIN was JL186434. production continued through July 1988. I have 1 documented '89, that had the D81 also. it was a very early built car. Chris
