What makes 1LE better?

For 91, what makes 1LE better than just a regular Z28 5.7?? how much more would they be worth?

1LE had 13 inch rotors and different calipers also these cars recieved a better gas tank better sway bars and maybe different shocks. Also an aluminum drive shaft and no power options. They didn't even have air conditioning. This option was for a race ready car. BTW you will never find a convertable or TTop 1LE.

The above answer is not entirely accurate.

A 1991 Z28 with 1LE is simply a Z28 ordered with G92 and no a/c. G92 of course triggered the dual cats, better gears, rear disc's, oil cooler, etc. The aluminum driveshaft and spare were added to save weight. Foglights were deleted, interior was the base model interior (vinyl/cloth), etc. Radio's usually weren't included. The gas tank issue is a myth. The gas tank itself is identical to any LB9 or L98, the fuel pump and sending unit is all the same, the only difference was to use a different fuel sock, but hey guess what, most all GM cars used the newer style sock by 1991. And the front brakes are just a shade under 12", not 13" and they use dual piston calipers opposed to single piston type GM used on all the other thirdgens. The sway bars are just WS6 sway bars that just about every Pontiac L98 had. The springs are fairly typical too, but in many cases the magazines said they were stiff to the point of being objectionable (read: Pain in the ***).

So, whats really special about a 1LE? front brakes.

Whats the 1LE missing that most of us would like to have in a daily driver? A/C, Stereo, comfy seats, foglights, etc.

So what are they worth? To me I'd rather have a normal Z28, but the 1LE's are more rare, and if you have one for sale and find a buyer who knows what a 1LE is and the buyer doesn't realize that he/she can convert to the nifty front brakes, it would probably sell for more money. To most people its jsut a base model camaro with no a/c.

Funny, my 91' 1LE had the upgraded seats in it. It sure handled alot better than a standard Z but from what I couldnt tell you. The sway bars were the same size as the regular Z or the B4C's. Neat cars but I live in Arizona and the no A/C was a pain. I agree with Drew on that but disagree on the aspect of just a base Camaro. My 1LE was approx. 150lbs lighter than a regular Z. Big deal. There is a beautiful black one on ebay right now with under 400 miles. I am sure his reserve is $20k at least.

I agree with drew 100% on this one.

I have seen 1LE's and to tell you the truth, I did not see anything all that special about them, other than there was a lack of creature comforts, and the car was subposed to be faster than normal Camaros or Firebirds...

As for the brake issue, if you want to stop faster, get BAER brakes, I HIGHLY recommend them.

Personally If i were to choose between 2 cars of equal condition, but one was loaded with a 350 had all the creature comforts, and had T-tops, and there was a 1LE right next to it that was $1000 less, I would still take the loaded out car before the 1LE.
