Want L69 H.O. Head info

The car that I got a 3.73 disc brake posi rear out of has an L69 engine in it, but is missing the top end. I thought that heads were supposed to be small chambers, like 58 or 64cc's, with big valves, 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust.
]Is this info correct?
What are the head casting numbers?
Are they decent flowing heads?
Do they have problems, like are thin and prone to cracking?
Are they worth a bunch, or is $75 for a pair that needs reconditioned a fair price?
What other insight can you guys give me.
Thanks
Be cool!

That info is incorrect.

The L69 heads are identical in every way to LG4 heads (and early LB9s too, for that matter). They are 416 casting, 1.84"/1.5" valves, 58cc. Nothing special.

I would not pay that much for a set of them. You can get the same heads off of a Caprice for probably $25. There's no magic in the sheet metal wrapped around them.

RB, I concur.
I took off a set of the 416's from my L69 and measured the valves before selling them. Standard 1.84/1.50 valves, same as the LG4. It was the L69 piston and the 3.2cc, .015" steel head gasket that made for the 9.5:1 compression ratio.

Thanks guys,
I was surprised that the intake valve was middle ground at 1.84, between the old small 1.74 intake valve and the more common large 1.94 intake size. I turned down a set of L69 junk yard heads because they wanted $125 and probably needed $200-300 dolllars of machine work and parts.
At the sprint car swap meet I attend, you can usually find a decent set of aluminum large valve, small chamber heads for $350-$400. $125 is a 1/3 of the price of a great set of heads, so I'll wait and get the good stuff in the fall.

Its good that you turned them down. I recently got myself a set of 416's for free! Maybe I ought to advertise them as L69 heads and watch to se who clamors for them.

For a hot 305, look to the Corvette aluminum head: A mild shave to 54 or 56 cc on the combustion chamber, and a good bowl workover will make them work great on a 305. You just have to avoid the urge to go to a bigger intake valve. The 1.94 intake valve is the biggest you can go on a 305 with conventional valve geometry.

Without actually re-looking up the part numbers on the heads I think all 305 heads for our cars were the same part number from 82-86, in 87 the heads for TPI and the LG4 were the same, BUT from 88-92, the LO3 (TBI) and the LB9 (TPI) used different heads, the LB9 (TPI) retained the heads used in '87 305's

hope that makes sence

I can scan and post the page from the parts catalog if you insist

John

What appealed to me was the fact that these heads were on 1984's and were not center bolt valve cover heads, they were the older perimeter style valve cover bolt on style. They were supposed to be 58cc, I thought. I want to use them on a flat top pistoned 350 for increased compression ratio. I have an old set of heavy casting 64cc heads, but with 1.74 intake valves, but with no accesory bolt hole provisions, that were given to me. So before I would put alot of money into another set of heads, I could just put my money into the older heaveir set. Though the older set would need hardened exhaust seats put in them if you were really that **** about worrying if they were going to wear out the seats becasue of the unleaded fuel sold today.

John or anyone else in the know,
Can you tell what these heads are off of, and what the intake runner size is? They are 58cc heads with casting number 378450. They are perimeter4 bolt valve cover heads, so they must be later than 86.
Anyone know if there are any inherent problems with these heads.
There looks like plenty of room to replace the intake valves with 1.94's, is this possible?
What might this cost to have 8 valve seats cut to enlarge them?
Fortunately, I can back cut the valves 30 degrees myself to improvef CFM flow into the head, and can do a 3 or more angle valve job to suit me since I inherited a valve grinding machine from my grandfathers garage business from back in the day.
Thanks

According to www.mortec.com :
376450.....75-81...262/267/305..6 or 7 exhaust bolt holes, 60cc chamber
I *had* a set of these off a 267 (tossed them out when I found out what they were); 1.74 intakes, 1.50 ehausts....I'm thinking they weren't very performance-oriented, at least not without a bunch of expensive machine work.

Hey thanks for the parts numbers info, but that's quite opposite of what I found later on partsscavengers.com. They list the 376450 heads with 6 or 7 exhaust holes as having 1.72 intake valves, 1.5 exhaust valves, but as being 76cc heads. The heads I was looking to buy check out on the valve size, exhaust holes, application and years they were used, but the chambers initially looked to me like they were 76cc. HMMMMM, I wonder which source is correct and what size they truly are. I tended to think that they were 76cc because 1978 was the middle of the smog era when 76cc big chamber heads were popular. I appreciate your help and input, but the disrepancy has me curious which source is correct. My Brother took the heads back to the seller, so I can't cc the heads to find out what the deal was. The seller thought they were 58cc and that was the premise he was selling them as, but I have never seen 58cc heads, and thought they were too similiar to the 76cc 882 chambers I have on my cars 350 right now.
Can anyone help shed some light on the chamber size?
