Build sheets
I have a 1990 iroc convertible and would really like to find my build sheet. The car was built in the Van Nuys plant.Does anyone know some common spots they maybe stuffed in this car from this plant.Tom w

I found one of my build sheets stuffed into the cushion under the drivers seat, and another under the rear bumper cover. There may have been at least one more, but I never have found it (this is based upon build sheet part #s that I have seen).

build sheets
thanks for the reply .I have looked in most spots with no luck.I wonder if those locations were from the same plant .Im the second owner and im sure they must still be around. The car has never really ben touched.

Rumor has that the build sheet for my formula was in the rear glovebox when my friends GF traded it in, it was gone when I got the car... To dealership cleanup and detailling staff its just another piece of trash.

I am lucky, both my 87's still have the original Build Sheets.
I think my 91 might have had it,
My 83 Camaro NOR my 83 T/A still have them...

Keep in mind that my 83 Camaro was transformed over to TPI, so It got a complete interior from a 87 Trans AM. The buld sheet would have been useless, except to know what options were on the T/A

I have a question regarding these build sheets... I was just installing my cd changer under my drivers seat, and sure enough I found one under the padding. These things are awesome, it confirms to me that my car really does have 3.23 gears w/ the 4-wheel disc, factory posi rear. That brought a huge smile to my face (meaning the kid I bought the car from really wasn't lieing to me!) But the rest of the stuff is just numbers, is there a site I can go to to decode it? For instance, I think my hood is fiberglass but not sure. On the sheet it says hood: Z24* and * is denoted as standard? (were fiberglass hoods standard on 83 Z28's?) What does that mean... where can I find these codes? Thanks for help... :lala: .. and that guys really cool.

I bought new a '89 and a '91 RS, both had the build sheets just thrown on the floor, if I would'nt rescued them before the cars were cleaned up for delivery they would be in the trash. but I had a '82 Indy built in Van Nuys and found a build sheet under the passenger front seat. unfortunatly it was not for my car. I also had a '83 Van Nuys built Z28, I found the sheet under the drivers seat. But I now have a '87 Norwood built convertible and I had the complete interior out and could'nt find the build sheet. And Chevy83Z28, the only cars to have the Fiberglass hood in '82 and '83 were the cross-fire injected cars which had the functional air induction. Chris.......'87 Convertible 1 of 263

cs2000, are you sure? If I put a magnet to the hood it won't stick (wrapped with a rag so it won't scratch, of course.) If I take the same magnet to the fender/door... it sticks. It also sticks to under the hood, but nowhere on top except for the little vent flap things in the center. It's carb'ed tho...

Build sheets are nice to find and may clear up some things. One good example is my friend who bought a '77 Camaro. He was told it was origionaly a V6 car. We found the build sheet behind the rear seats when installing speakers. It said on the side:
ZZZZZZZ
---------2
-------2
-----2
---2
-2
8888888
with a bunch of other things like the paint which was a gold with black stripes. We confirmed this by knocking on the hood which had been bondo'd over where the special Z28 hood scoop was, decoded the engine, sanded some paint down to reviel the gold (it's primered don't worry), decoded the VIN (title read V6!), and a couple other hidden mysterys that the previous owner must have decided to cover up for whatever reason. We also found that it was first sold in North Carolina, we live in St. Louis. I really wish I could find mine!
One other thing, build sheets were suposed to be thrown away by the dealer so finding yours is purly luck, maybe becouse the dealer was lazy.
Happy Hunting,
Matt

This is off topic and I appologise but...
I think I know where there might be a Fiberglass hood here in MI, I saw it in a junkyard, actually did not realize it might be until Drew's Post about the crossfire engine having them... It had the Crossfire engine, so I can assume that it still has the glass hood..
It was in Mt Morris, MI, at AutoCity Salvage...

Sorry to say but 83 Z28's also got fiberglass hoods. I have one and research confirms it. I have a 83 L69 with a glass hood. Yes they where original. Any trends as to where build sheets were in norwood cars? I have searched high and low but cant find and refusing to give up hope It seems norwood used to throw them out alot more then the other.

after reading the posts here for build sheet locations, I found one stuffed into the drivers seat cushion between the springs and the foam rubber. Most of it is in good shape except for the bits that are still stuffed up inside the cushion. Is there a place to decode these build sheets?
#24
The information on the build sheets on the seats typically is only interior information, sometimes it has some of the RPO's and their descriptions. The only part to decode is the VIN number, since the RPO codes are already defined on the sheet.
#25
One of my 92 RS's had the build sheet sandwiched between the door panel and the door on the passenger side.
I have the knowledge to figure out most of the stuff, but to most people its just a bunch of numbers and letters.

There's an 82 - 83 fiberglass camaro hood in a junkyard in New Jersey .. good condition, grey color. if anyone needs it let me know, and I can find out the junkyard's name / location / number etc.

Hey kizz is it a CFI hood or standard Glass hood. Everyone I have found is a CFI hood. Mine after sanding has had both front corners snapped off and rebuilt and has a issue with the driver side glass support. I will be comming up the jersey Turnpike on thursday, So just maybe....

I can't remember if it was CFI or normal
I was up in NJ last week and I was going through that junkyard with a couple of friends of mine who live around there. I'm back In North Carolina now and while we did take pics of junkyard action, we didn't take pics of that hood. If I remember right (heh no guarantees), it had those center swoosh openings that Z28's have, but I don't know if they were functional. I didn't look at the underside a lot, but it seemed in good shape on the top side. Lemme know if you need it and I'll try to find the place's address / number etc. It's around Madison NJ, west of NYC.

uh, I thought you were going to be in the area .. so it's not worth checking out? cool, let it get crushed then I guess.. makes no difference to me.. I know I don't need it, but I know probably hundreds of people out there do.

Would I like to see it and if it is a non CFI hood would I take it? In a second. I just figured it would be a pain for you to figure out where it was and their #/ address. If you don't mind then I would love the info. Thursday I am driving to Massachusetts from Florida do I could stop on my way up and ship it down or rent a truck and pick it up on my way back(I was flying back down). If you got the information great if not don't wanna make anyone work to hard. It would be a complete shame if they crush a good 82-83 glass hood.

This is the yard KIZZ and I saw the hood at:
G.I. Auto Parts, INC
Route 46
Pine Brook, NJ 07058
973-227-1100
I'm fairly certain it was not the crossfire hood.. It felt a heck of a lot lighter than the 82-84 power-bulge trans am hoods feel. I think the color may have been dark gray.

they had about half a dozen firebirds and even more camaros. you gotta look hard to spot 'em (in the GM section) coz some are right in the middle surrounded by 3 or 4 cars on each side. plus they're always changing but any junkyard is like that. it's definitely worth a look though, if you're in the area.

BUILD SHEET LOCATION
I have an 84 Trans Am and an 82 firebird. I found both build sheets under the drivers seat. the 82 however had only a little bit left and basically was useless but the 84 however had 2 under the seat and both were surprisingly 100% intact. if you go to remove that build sheet be very very patient pulling it out from the underside of the seat. it can be a very delicate process, no kidding. don't try and just put your hand under the seat and pull it out. all you will maybe get is little pieces that way. completely remove the seat.

having a Recaro T/A may complicate things since the seats are unique and may come from elsewhere, etc... I don't think I've ever seen a Recaro T/A build sheet. I have felt under my seat all over and I can't feel anything obvious. Is the paper located so that if it was there, you could feel it?
On my 85 firebird, I took out the seats once and looked all around the underneath and felt inside as far as I could without ripping anything, and found nothing. Still haven't searched my 84 S/E.. it has the original seats, so it should be interesting.

under your seat there is a type of cloth and it maybe under that. if you put your hand under your seat and feal around for something you may feel the cloth and mistake it for the build sheet. the only way to find one under the seat without damaging it anymore than it may already be is to unbolt the seat from the floor and then look at the underside of the seat. you can't miss it if it is there. http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/84transam/
