Tuned Port Injection Plate

I never noticed before that my throttle body cover plate doesn’t say Tuned Port Injection. Is this common on the 92’s? Someone asked about this on the Van Nuys Plant page.

Hi Leonard.

For 1992, the plates were blank. My 1991 Z28 has tpi engraved on the plate. Do your intake runners have a rough texture to them? If so, those were left over from the corvette when the went from tpi to the LT1 in 1992. Your car is a piece of automotive history.

Re: Tuned Port Injection Plate

Late production 1992 cars got rough cast L98 Corvette runners instead of smooth tubular F body runners, a blank TB plate, and black painted valve covers instead of sliver painted valve covers. The 3rd gen F body parts bins were running empty so they had to raid the parts bins from other GM cars.

Pretty sure your car is late production 92 being it's the last one ever made.

My 1992 T/A doesn't say Tuned Port Injection either.

It also doesn't say Ruben E.

Thanks guys! I knew about the runners and black valve covers, but never paid attention to the smooth plate.

JT, Ruben E. must have been too busy the day your car was built.

Re: Tuned Port Injection Plate

Funny mine has the black valve covers, rough runners but have the "Tuned Port Injection" plate.

The last 5 digits in my VIN is 37920.

The smooth plate was good for an additional 20 HP! It also gave Ruben a place to sign his name.

I doubt they ran out of all three of those parts at the same time. Going off memory of something I read a long time ago the later 92 cars could have up to those 3 parts different than the earlier 92 cars but not necessarily have all 3 parts different.

It also could have been changed during earlier ownership before you bought the car. Your car has a replacement alternator and oil fill cap and probably other parts too if you look very close at it. Parts get changed over the years. First time I saw a car with all 3 parts different the blank TB plate jumped out at me from 10 feet away. Took a long while before I noticed the cast Vette runners and black valve covers. Maybe a pervious owner noticed the blank TB plate and swapped it out.
