1989 IROC Z decal mystery
Can anyone help explain why both of my IROC Z's have different door decal placements? Both cars are 1989s I can provided VIN and RPO for both cars. As far as I know neither has been wrecked or redone. I thought the door decal was moved to the rear in 1987?? Maybe I am crazy !

It was moved to the rear of the door in '88. Your black car has seen some repairs. The key evidence is the front bumper cover with peeling paint. Firstly, factory applied paint generally didn't peel off of the plastic when flexed in an impact. Secondly, the factory bumper covers were molded in black plastic, not yellow. There were aftermarket covers back in the day that were molded in yellow and had a black primer applied to the face. Adhesion promoter or other flex agents (used when painting flexible parts) would often attack that primer and cause the paint to flake off later.
