1987 Yellow Iroc with TPI, t-tops, manual, and G80/G92 mini-restoration
I know there are tons of threads on here on this and that combo, but I've only seen 1 other combo like this?
Any other TPI yellow sticks out there?
Hopefully this will be my forever cruiser after missing ny yellow 85 I sold
It has 69k miles, im the 3rd owner, and a perfect carfax.
It needs lots of little things, but runs OK and we are loving it already!

Thanks guys! yes, I have already started fixing the little things
-refurbed the steering wheel
-ashtray lid
-better shift ****
-hood struts
-trunk struts
-electric pull down repaired.
I'll post some pictures of the repairs as I do them, so I can have a running restoration thread. It will be a slow process though!

Re: 1987 Yellow Iroc with TPI, t-tops, manual, and G80/G92
Removed the Old T-top bar to clean around it and install a new Hawks T-top bar after figuring out mine is too far gone!
New Hawks T-top bar
Luckily underneath the bar was in GREAT shape. We are only planning on painting the nose and hood, keeping the rest of the paint as-is
Along with new T-top bar, we added new weather stripping, an ABS headliner, and my Fiance recovered the rear speaker grills. It made a HUGE difference in the interior. The gas station lights always hit differently, LOL. I had not cleaned the interior after working in and around it for weeks.
Finished. Just need a dash pad and a console lid and I'll be happy with the inside... (and Bluetooth the factory radio)
Refinished steering wheel looks GREAT
Refinished the shifter boot, fixed the ashtray lid, and installed new window switches. I also want to get a stock shift ball.
She loves to help......... SOMETIMES. Here she is cleaning all of the old weatherstripping and installing the new!
Also, I redid the rear brakes and started adjusting the E-brake as well!

Last weekend we were able to get it to the Charlotte Autofair. Even though the rain showed us every place we need to fix on the weatherstripping, we had a great time.

Re: 1987 Yellow Iroc with TPI, t-tops, manual, and G80/G92 mini-restoration
Spent some time tackling the intermittent misfire and overall poor performance!
-Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, fuel filter and after pulling the old stuff off 2 plugs were barely firing and 2-3 wires burnt! After replacing that the misfire was gone, but still had bad idle characteristics and would sometimes "misfire" at idle still. The distributor was making a noise, so we pulled it and the teeth were VERY worn out and obviously OEM. Replaced that and it was nearly perfect. the whole trip to Myrtle Beach was great, but it still had a small miss from 2-2500 ONLY after the car warms, so we put a new coil on it and so far so good! This car is quick now. Surprisingly quick!
-found a burnt vacuum line causing the HVAC to not move position from the defroster, so fixed that.
-fixed the floppy center vents
-Converted and charged the AC, it WORKED, but leaked out from the high pressure switch on the compressor. I have a new one to put on now
-The hanging idle was simply some buildup in the TB near the blades. I literally can not believe that was it!
-Got some new Lloyds mats for it (black, no logo)
-Resealed the weatherstripping on the T-tops, getting much better rain protection
-Traded for a flow master muffler and had it and some stock style tips welded up on it. Love how quiet it is now(still has a little rumble)
-Previous owner had keep tthe smog pump on (which I am OK with), but has an aftermarket cat on it that doesn't have the pipe on it, so the smog pump was just throwing exhaust fumes in the engine compartment. Sounded like a horrible exhaust leak all the time! Removed all of that and plugged the Smog pipes coming off of the manifolds. At some points I may remove the manifolds completely and plug all of the air tubes there, but that's a lot of work. For now, it is good!
Here are a couple pictures...

I can tell by the pics that your t-tops are also factory code CC1 t-tops. His SPID has CC1, and yours will too. CC1 is the rpo code for factory t-tops. Not to be confused in any way with C&C t-tops, which there is no RPO code for since they're aftermarket.

Re: 1987 Yellow Iroc with TPI, t-tops, manual, and G80/G92 mini-restoration
I was able to get the broken AC compressor switch out, so hopefully my AC will stay charged now!
Also, I spent a couple hours putting in the aftermarket fog lights.
Man, the fit like CRAP! The brackets are not the right shape, the adjusters for the angle of light pattern work for the 1st 1/4 then they just strip (meaning they don't adjust p or down). I ended up having to get nut that fir the adjuster screw and then tighten to my desired angle. Also, the brackets would angle them at the ground if you don't bend them to the proper angle first. Lastly, the bulb hole does not offer a secure feel at all.
They look proper once installed, but were not fun to install at all.
I also just dropped it off to have the nose, hood, and front fenders painted/blended in and got some matching Iroc stripe tape from Hawks. Hopefully it matches well!
Here is a history question for you! The car has the gold wheels/stripes/decals, but has the black interior. This mismatch was only possible on yellow Irocs, correct? With that being said, what color would the emblem on the rear (TPI) and front grill be?

THANK YOU!
Got it back and really happy. Had some damage under the bra from a previous repair. Also got the bottom of the hood dusted in so when I add a hood liner it will be finished looking!
My fiancé painted the camaro gold as I felt that matched the striping, emblems, and wheels.

Thank you! Trying to knock out a lot of the little things for the Summer!
Debating on sanding the clear and reclearing the factory Irocs or getting some Hawks 17s with new tires and just putting these off to the side.
I also fixed the leaking AC Compressor high side sensor, so HOPEFULLY it will hold a charge now.

Put a new high pressure switch in the compressor and charged the AC Before heading out to a local cruise in. Hopefully it hangs in there this time! It held a vacuum for 20 minutes, so I have failth. Lol

Well. The AC was short lived. Its still leaking from the pressure switch on tbe compressor after a day. I replaced the switch and O ring when I replaced it. I didn't score the sides or anything when removing the old one, so not sire why the new one is leaking. I have to replace my belts anyway, so I'll look into it more this week.
Any ideas?

I just keep doing small things to this car.
Detailed the engine(pictures coming soon) and added some new centercaps and new lug nuts with black caps for a pretty close OEM look
Got parking lights coming and may get some new door tops (inside) to replace my cracked ones. Then console and gotta figure out what Im going to do with the dashpad corner...

Not that anyone checks in here much, but found some GM parking lights at a great price so threw those in!

Got it lined up and the steering wheel is FINALLY straight. Yah! AC compressor still leaking from the switch, so have another one coming...

Either we are very lucky or smart!
Horn hasn't worked as the white plastic tube in the steering wheel was brokem. We used a file to cut a new slit in it, butvit didn't work too well.
My fiance found on of the plastic inserts that go on metal rods to lock them into things and we put a slitvin it to get it over the wire. We worked it in(not using the black tube with the two lugs on it at all) . It stays in GREAT and keeps enough tension on the spring for the horn to work. Its straight with a working horn now!

Replaced the ac pressure switch again... this one had some good pressure going in hopefully resulting in a tighter fit and had a little ac oil on it, so I'm hopeful this time.
Also pulled off the TPI snorkel and cleaned/painted it satin black. I normally wouldn't do this, but it had some rub marks that were showing grey underneath. Bumper satin black looks great!

Thanks guys. Little by little getting it dialed in. Thankfully its a fun car to drive, so we get to enjoy it through the whole process
