Period Correct Aftermarket Valve Covers

I just picked up a set of nos Mr Gasket #6562 valve covers. Does anyone have any other period correct valve covers? These are dated 1982.

Nice. I have a set like that and I had them powder coated with a black crinkle finish.

Re: Period Correct Aftermarket Valve Covers

That's what I was planning to do with these but they are brand new. Would be a shame to mess with them.

Nice! I have a set I bought at a swap meet last year. Not NOS, but in near new shape.

I've always wanted a set of them! I think they look best on a carbed early car 82-86ish) Great score

I have to go through my old computer to find a pic or get the car out to take a pic. It has to get inspected, so it will be out soon. But I will get one.

Just a little tacky, but perfectly 80's. Not gonna lie, a set would look pretty nifty finished to match a tuned port intake.

Gotta love all the 80s tacky-ness. Louvers, mud flaps, decals. I rock it all.

Re: Period Correct Aftermarket Valve Covers

I’d buy a set to powder coat and hang on the shop wall. Don’t think I’d put them on a car.

Re: Period Correct Aftermarket Valve Covers

I had a set that I installed on a 85Z TPI/LSC car I owned a few years back.....

Had to fabricate some baffles because there were none installed or with the valve covers when I got them, but making a couple baffles and scrounging for the proper sized grommets was worth the effort so that I could get the valve covers installed IMO.

Yes, they look good blacked out like that. Is that a wrinkle finish paint John?

Re: Period Correct Aftermarket Valve Covers

Thanks 82tarecaro. Subtly different than the ones the OP has and I have, but very similar, and quite good looking.

Do you add the black finish, or did you buy them that way? If you did that, what did you use?

I had them powder coated. they were originally black, but sitting in my basement for 20 years took its toll on the finish. The silver is actually powdercoat as well, and not polished. Not sure how the powder coater did it, but he said it was a pain in the ***.

Really...I would not have guessed that about the silver. And I will just bet it was a PITA to do. Thanks for letting me know.
