The black on black is cool, but unfortunately r title kills it being able to bring a decent price.
They actually built around 130ish Gta convertibles in 89

It’s always been hard to say exactly how many were made. The data is out there for 5.7 L cars, but it doesn’t distinguish between Trans Am and GTA

Re: Rare Gta convertible
One thing to consider, take a look at the drivers side quarter panel, its been hit from the rear. I would say that is why it has a r title and not because an engine fire like the seller says.

It is a rare car. It is a twin to my car and I have only seen 3 or 4 (triple black,leather,350) in the last 15+ years. Definitely worth saving but he is asking too much IMO. The car needs a LOT of love.

It would be worth looking at around 4k. You would end up sinking at least another 6-8k in the body and interior , who knows how the drivetrain is. That's if you done a lot of the work yourself. It would be worth saving though a great car just priced wrong and I doubt it sells if they won't budge a lot.

Definately worth saving. As far as $.....it is gonna be a spendy restoration. BUT, think of what you'd have when it was all finished. It's a rare car. Regardless of the title status......its still a desirable car and not very many on the planet to choose from.

Agreed, and 4k might even be generous. Even the seat belts are faded blue, which means it's baked in the sun.
I'm in at $2k, and ready to buy a wrecked one and do the heavy lifting.

Re: Rare Gta convertible
I don't think the data distinguishes 5.0 vs 5.7 on the Trans Am models. The GTA has the numbers of 8 MM5/5.0 but no breakdown of 5.0 TAs. I think okfoz posted 144 TA/GTA convertibles but you're right about not accurate on actual 5.0 TAs vs GTAs

Seeing the full ad now I think this car would be nice for a refresh and drive. Repaint the bumpers/ swap to 4th gen seats/ fix the quarter and other minor issues and enjoy it for what it is. Not even car has to be showroom new. Of course this all depends on buying for a more reasonable price

Re: Rare Gta convertible
$500 for clean leather seats vs buying $1200 covers since good Gta leather seats are non existent. It’s not half assing I just see the car as make it more presentable and drive it like a daily. Different visions for different people that’s all. I personally wouldn’t dump the money for a complete restoration in a salvage title car

I think I'm on the same page as big&badGTA: if you put effort in, might as well do it right.
In my eyes this car would depend 100% on the underside. If floors are solid it would be worth saving. $7000+ is really not insane & if these cars continue to rise it might look cheap in 5 years.

Had shredded black leather seats in my last T/A and had a local guy cover them in vinyl. Turned out gorgeous, couldn't tell it wasn't leather. $600 I think.

144 GTA 350 or Trans Am 350 Convertibles.
9 GTA/Trans Am with 5.0 TPI (All GTA's would have been a 5 speed)
4 L03 Trans Am

Re: Rare Gta convertible
rarely do you see the T/A convertible. One day hopefully the breakdown gets more sorted. We need a registry like you have one your site for the TAs/GTAs.
I'm guessing more GTAs than TAs.
Thank you for clarifying.

I have record of 55 that I have found so far. Of those 5 are Trans Ams... it is 9:1 Best Guess... 14 Trans Ams 130 GTAs

The top looks good.. I’d say $6000 would be fair based on the amount of $$$ it would need to get it back to fighting shape and also based on the rarity of its pedigree. Wouldn’t be a good flip but you could break even for what it would be worth fixed up and you’d have a rare car.

I might be listing mine in 2019 & it will be tough. It drives so nicely & I'll probably never find a nicer one.

Re: Rare Gta convertible
The GTAs for some reason aren't as desirable as the IROCs but not a great reason why. Even some of the rare birds aren't keeping up with the IROCs. I think mainly because the huge recognition of the IROC name. I don't see this car bringing $6k anytime soon. I think $4-4.5k & that depends on how bad it is in person. Rarely do I go look at a car with known problems that is better or exactly as expected. That rear quarter is pretty major & being an Eastern car, floors probably have rust. Luckily there are still some decent GTA convertibles available.

With the amount of money it will need put into it, what’s another $1500 if a black GTA 5.7 is your holy grail.. Obviously try to get it as cheap as possible..
The repair title does not help the value.. good bargaining chip..

might be right.. I’d figure the 5.7 and Vert would help a little.. also figure the seller probably wouldn’t cut the price in half either..

I do appreciate these cars for what they are but this particular car should be just fun driver. They are not worth hemorrhaging money into & one thing about the GTAs, the parts are tough to find in nice shape & buying a good donor car would be the best bet to fix this one.
The seller started out at $7500 & I have seen some pretty decent cars bought for that.
It is ironic but the guys who were in upper management with ASC that I've spoken with trying to research my ASC convertibles actually favored the GTA way over the IROCs. The GTA is a far superior car to the IROC and I own both. My IROC convertible is a much more utilitarian type quality compared to my GTA convertible. I feel the looks of the IROC are more pleasing but to drive.....GTA all day long.
triple black GTA sure doesn't show up often though. Hope to see the right person end up saving this one.

I agree with the repair title, this would not be a great meticulous restoration candidate..
I think the only reason IROCs are selling for more money is public perception and nostalgia.. people didn’t really have memories of the GTAs. Just read up on GTAs today.. Never new it stood for Gran Turismo Americano.. They saw an SR71 plane and wanted to make a high end TA with tuned WS6 suspension and solid in color with just “jewelry” for badges. Sleek and modern like the plane.. Also never knew the wheels were used to keep the car under the weight limit for the gas guzzler tax. It was the most luxurious third gen.. Too bad they only gave Pontiac half the marketing dollars that Camaro got.. Firebirds lagged in sales due to the lack in marketing dollars many believe and would maybe contribute to their lagging value compared to IROCs..

Re: Rare Gta convertible
Let us be real... Unfortunately this car has a rebuilt title. That means whoever looks at it knows that there is an issue with it. Typically rebuilt means 1/2 the price, immediately. This car has a lot of potential, but if anyone want's to buy it, they have to be warned that it might be a difficult car to sell because of the title.
The car looks to be decent condition, it has been repainted, as an engine fire would have made that mandatory, plus the evidence of repaint around the sticker on the door jamb.
With all that said, it would be a great car for someone who want's this car, but has no interest in flipping it, but just want's to drive it to enjoy it...
It is #109 of the known 144...
