Re: 1989 IROC 344 original miles
I tend to agree. If it’s so nice it can’t be driven, what’s the point?
I had a 1964 Galaxie 500XL for nearly 20 years. Bought it from the original owner for a song, 30,000 miles. Everywhere I went, I got the same advice...”you shouldn’t drive that, you should save it, and one day it will be really valuable”. Best advice I never took. I drove that car for over 200,000 miles, and enjoyed the daylights out of it. Sold it for slightly more than I paid for it. Sold it nearly 20 years ago, and my wife STILL mentions that car, and how much she misses it. I doubt she or I would remember it more fondly had we simply stared at it for 20 years.
Same with my ‘88 L98 IROC. I’ve driven the daylights out of it over the past three years. I have a 1993 LT1 Corvette I bought in January (85,000 miles) that’s getting an average of 500 miles or so a month on it.
The irony is, I know more about what it’s like to drive an IROC than some people who’ve owned one for 30 years, because it’s out on the street at a minimum 3-4 times a week. Is it worth a lot? Probably not...but I bought it to enjoy...if I wanted something pretty to look at as an investment, I’d have bought a painting.

this is supposed to be a 334 mile car, that is the problem..i can go examine a 225 km
1991 rs camaro and see if any of these so called "clay bar residues" are on my associates
vehicle that won a "best original camaro" at a recent camaro national event.

Exactly Leonard! I don’t know why some folks get upset if you CHOOSE to not rack up miles or drive in weather a car which you own?

Re: 1989 IROC 344 original miles
I think what bothers people is the owning a sweet car and not enjoying it. Some people might love their car to look like brand new and want to keep it in a bubble and they’re obsessed with it, but they LOVE the car even without driving it.. Some want to be able to enjoy driving it sparingly, or a lot.. I think it’s seen as a waste when “collector” types stick it in storage under a cover just to own it but don’t enjoy the actual car. It’s more “owning something other people want”.. If you have the money, cool, but you also get to be judged as well.. If no one looks at or drives the car in 20 years it’s kind of a waste, but maybe if it ends up in the hands of someone who will truly appreciate it someday that’s something..

Appreciation varies just as personalities do.....we are all different......there is no right or wrong way to "appreciate" something
weather it's a car, or a painting......just my

Well, I have my 92 Z with 125 miles, a 94 Z with 695 miles and a 99 Hugger Orange SS Vert with 850 miles. I have “many” hobbies that keep me busy, but not a day goes by without discussing my cars with someone. I get great enjoyment out of looking at, talking about, and owning my cars. It’s not how you would enjoy them, and that’s fine by me. I’ll never be the guy that says “I wish I had never sold that car”, because I don’t sell them! I almost forgot, I also have a 69 Z that hasn’t been driven since 1990 and I have a 28 Ford pickup and a 29 Ford Business Coupe that haven’t been driven in many years.

I don’t think they are bothered by yours’ or mine or anyone else’s enjoyment. I’ve owned my black 89 for almost 30 years. It just bugs certain people in the way you choose to enjoy it. Don’t want to drive it in the rain? You’ll hear, “ afraid it’s gonna melt?” No, it won’t melt, but it’s going to take 20-40 hours of detailing for a half hour drive in the rain. Some folks don’t get that and some folks do.

I don’t think you have to drive it to enjoy it but some question motives of “collector” types. Do you love the car or is it inventory?
I also ended by saying maybe those cars that are seen as a “waste” will someday be in the hands of someone that will appreciate driving or just looking at the car, but appreciating it none the less.. Maybe the years off the road will be a gift to a future owner even if the time was “wasted” by someone who forgot about the car..
I get poked fun at by people that have newer sports cars because I don’t take mine out in the rain, but I try to have a balance of preservation, restoration and limited enjoyment when conditions are right..

are you a quadriplegic? seriously.....and i mean no offense but wow,the willpower you must have!!!imagine having Angelina Jolie(or whoever/whatever strokes your fancy) naked and horny in front of you and urging you over and you saying "nahhh, ill save it for the next guy"oh well>>>back to the painting metaphor.i guess ill never be a guy who has 8 cars with a combined mileage of 750 km and im alright with that.i cant imagine owning a car keeping it around as a blue chip investment, but all the power to those that can do it.ive never been extraordinarily wealthy and couldn't imagine paying for something that sits unused and untouched.ANYWAY,at least we know in our lifetimes there will always be brand new 1987-1992 third gens in someones garage completely untouched and un-driven..."automotive virgins" if you will......awaiting prince charming with a fat wallet and a lust to drive "FAST,IN THE RAIN".

Re: 1989 IROC 344 original miles
im not judging you at all,i find it very interesting . im pondering your choices and possible motivations. i know they are yours and you are entitled to them,it is none of my business but i find it unusual.
if you have 5-6 cars 20-50 years old that you do not drive and they have less miles than the average car would have driving it home from the dealership when new, what is the purpose of owning it if not an investment?
do you buy books and not read them? do you buy a television and not watch it? do you have a garden and weed and care for it then pick the vegetables and admire them? do you buy a vacation home and leave it empty?
of course you do not have to answer but it seems very strange to me,maybe im the one with a skewed opinion.i really do not know anymore.....
thanks for your time,i hope enjoy looking at your cars and preserving something for future generations without adding any wear, marks or miles.
you should consider opening an automotive museum, you seem to enjoy the aesthetic beauty of automobiles a great deal and can negate, separate and ignore the lust to drive them.
i mean no offense to you and i am grateful that you have the means to own and preserve essentially brand new cars for several decades, leaving them virtually untouched .

Re: 1989 IROC 344 original miles
The Formula I bought spent a great majority of it's life in some guy's collection, brought out to one or 2 shows a year. It's now being driven, pretty much every weekend that's nice, I get that car out and cruise it around the country for an hour or 2. So far, it's never been in the rain since I've had it and is super clean. I try to avoid rain with that car, but eventually it's going to happen.
The 89 is a daily driver, it's been driven in the rain plenty of times and doesn't matter. I also have a Silverado daily driver.
I generally drive the 82 every Saturday and the Formula every Sunday, weather permitting. Neither of these 2 cars are daily drivers, but I still drive them.

thanks for suggesting my fleeting youth is still here,im 55..i have also lived many years and gained a great deal of experience .
im not judging as i already mentioned ,however i am really interested in what motivates the 0.1% to do the exact polar opposite of the 99.9%....
it may be an interest in human psychology and the varied views and ideas people have in regards to subjects i find interesting as well.
i would love to see your cars in some form of photographic excellence, they do sound incredible and absolutely something to envy and lust after.
thank you kindly for the discussion Leonard, enjoy your evening and have a look for me!!!!

FWIW, Leonard owns a car that literally CAN'T be driven. His 1992 Heritage Z28 is the very last third gen built, and everyone at the factory signed the car as it rolled down the assembly line. It has signatures absolutely EVERYWHERE. Maybe you've seen pics or heard of the car. To drive it would literally ruin the history of the car. It NEEDS to be preserved forever. I'm actually surprised that it has 125 miles on it, lol. Google the last 1992 camaro and you'll find all kinds of stuff about it. It's a true TREASURE. Also, his 99 Hugger Orange SS Convertible is one of only 18 with white leather and white top. Some things deserve to be preserved.

in this case i absolutely agree it should be preserved as it is a testament to the things we genuinely love and enjoy and truly a piece of history,i would love to see a photo spread on it and any other cars he has.
i have only seen one car in this level of perfection and that was a 1991-1992 rs camaro v6 model, red on red with 250 km.an automotive appraiser owns it near my home and the car is truly a wonder and a visual
spectacle of perfection and according to him it won the "factory stock catagory" at a recent camaro national event. im beginning to understand why some wish to preserve these and keep them perfect.i meant no disrespect
to Leonard or any of the other members whatsoever and he has my respect and admiration.i have never had the financial surplus/security to purchase and own a car i could not drive but understand those that do/can.
i guess at the end of the day it boils down to envy so its all on me.
Leonard,i am truly sorry if i offended you...thank you for preserving things that would have otherwise been lost forever.

Re: 1989 IROC 344 original miles
i would love to see it sometime even in pictures, its good to have references to original cars like this and a future source of accurate restoration information.
i often wish my car was meticulously original but it was already well used and somewhat "hillbilly modded" by the time i got it.the only option it "did" have is
air which was cannibalized by the time i got it.the wiring has been cut and spliced and "f'd with and im slowly trying to sort it out.its a very base level, super
low option car so its value, even if perfect is questionable with an lg4,no power windows,no power door locks,no power antenna,no power hatch release,no fm
radio/cassette(mono radio and one speaker, lol),no rear speakers etc.i still love it and summer "daily" drive it as much as possible.

First of all, right, if he's a new comer, right, I want him to clay-bar my Camaro with jelly. They call it "toss the original miles". That's the slang word: "toss the original miles". It means clay-bar my Camaro, right, with jelly or without jelly. Some people use syrup, I prefer if Barrett-Jackson uses jelly, right. I will reach my closing bid, right, I will automatically get on the record right. I will, you know, fake narrative automatically if he's cease and desisting me for about ten minutes alone. It's a sensation feeling and it makes you feel real good. Most all face book experts do that, you know what I'm saying? Like guys to cease and desist their clay-bar. It's just like a Camaro, right, but the only different is its not a Camaro, right. It's clean, the paint is decent, and the person knows that that's a repaint but in they mind they be lookin' at it as a deceiving digital image because he's in prison. So, toss my original miles and let him jelly me, you know, and we straight. That's it.

Ok, so I bought a 2016 white car last week that has never been clayed. it needed to be clayed really badly and I spent hours washing and claying it. I have never seen brown water on a white car as I clayed it (never clayed a white car), and you know what? I don't have any clay residue on the car. It all just rinsed off.
Oh, and Leonard has a unicorn! In 1992, there were "officially" 70,007 Camaros produced. How is it possible that his VIN number is 70,008? I would love to see his car someday, but he needs to clean the cobwebs and dust off of it first or I will have to do it for him!
