Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
It’s a nice car. But I would not buy it. No 5 speed, no t-tops, manual widows, and not a fan of the burgundy exterior with bright red interior. It just does not have the right build or options.

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
The temp gauges do that sometimes. The cluster is wired so that the "bulb test" feature that would light up the idiot light on the indicator cluster, makes the temp gauge peg when you hit the key. The result is that the needle swings too far and gets caught on the edge gauge face. One of mine was so bad, I got sick of it and made a stop peg which I glued to the gauge face, to keep the needle from swinging far enough to get stuck. Then the needle promptly started getting stuck off the scale on the bottom side. LOL Now with a second stop in at the bottom of the scale, the gauge works fine. Can't see the stops I added when the gauge cluster is assembled.
That red interior isn't as bad as the later red. The lack of desirable options makes the car unattractive to me. The color is nice, it's just an RS with a barely V8.

This is a car that you put nice wheels on, maybe lower it a tad and put a good sounding exhaust on it and drive it. Not something I'd molest too badly, but not something I'd avoid adding a few personal touches to. Too bad it's an automatic....

Hmmmmm.....this ones got me thinking....might be a good candidate for a light build.
Wish it had power windows, kind of an oddball RS.
I sent the seller a request for pics of the underside, will be interesting to see how it looks.
I've see it on ebay several times in the past, anyone here know the car? The seller is a woman, I hope to speak with her today.

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
IMO, this one is no creampuff. It may indeed have only 10,000 miles on it, but looks like it spent many years stored in a dirt floor barn up north. Underside is not your typical 10,000 mile car that was kept inside a garage or storage unit. Same with under the hood. Not a bad car overall, it just does not live up to the "creampuff" definition.....IMO anyway.

I don't see any underhood or undercarriage pics.

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
It's a nice car, but the transmission is a deal killer.
I can see taking an automatic with the L98, but there's no way I'd take an automatic with a TBI. If it's going to be slow, at least let me have some fun shifting gears!

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
A few years ago I drove an L03 automatic RS. It was simply awful. It felt like a tractor motor, torquey but hit a brick wall at around 3500. A couple weeks later I drove an IROC with an L03 5 speed and it was a completely different experience. It was lively and fun. Easily chirped the tires going into second and pulled to nearly 5000 RPM. It did have a truck aircleaner on it, but I suspect it also had the better ICM which didn't start retarding timing at 3500 RPM.
While I'm rambling, I wonder what an L03 would feel like with hotter factory parts? L98 cam, L69 air cleaner, 2.25" manifolds and N10 exhaust.

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
People on here used to mod TBI cars all the time. IDK, maybe they still do. Generally they got better, but were still slow and also with all the mods they usually didn't 'work' as well as they did stock.
TBI has it's place. They make great daily drivers. Kind of like the V6, but with a V8 exhaust note. They're just the furthest thirdgen V8 from being viable for performance. Well, maybe CFI is worse... Hmm...

Re: 10K Mile Creampuff
Did something similar minus the cam swap 15 years ago on my brother’s 92’ RS 305 TBI Auto. 3.73/Disc Rear end swap, 2.25” manifolds/single cat y-pipe, 3” cat-back, open element air cleaner, bumped base timing to 6btdc and 93 octane. 1/4 mile went from mid-high 16’s to mid 15’s. It did change the feel of the car a lot and it sounded good, but it wasn’t that fast. Reliability and driveablility was the same as stock since we didn’t change the cam. We used a lot of used parts from other cars that we sourced cheap, so mostly it was just our time. Did what we could when we were broke college kids.

Mid to upper 15s.

On mine, I had L69 manifolds, 3" exhaust with an SLP 2OTL. I also had a T5 out of an '84 Iron Duke Firebird. Being for an Iron Duke, the T5 was geared so steeply that upshifts, downshifts, even letting off the throttle in 1st and 2nd would chirp the tires. That and the aggressive sound of the exhaust gave the impression that a 400 hp smallblock lived under the hood to bystanders.

Cool, as long as you don't take the car through the Robo-Wash. I still remember the disappointment of the first CFI car I ever drove, and at the time I was rocking an LG4. The seller really thought he had something special, but that car (82 Z28) was a real pig. Couldn't finish that test drive fast enough.

When I bought my CFI and drove it home from Wisconsin, it seemed unbelievably slow. I'd doubt if it was putting out more than 90 horses.
But some common maintenance and mostly chasing down all of it's vacuum leaks made it drive much better. Not fast necessarily, but you could keep up with modern traffic.
