PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
I found a 1992 RS Heritage edition with only 2959 miles and is the true definition of the words "time capsule" - it is just like it rolled off the production line and looks like new. Even the original tires are perfect! Underside you can eat off, no corrosion on brake lines, suspension, rear end, etc. Best part is NO UNDERCOATING. Includes original window sticker and build sheet.
My question to you guys.....what $$ value would you give it?....What would YOU pay for it if you were in the market for a 3rd gen?....I know a lot of you would not want it because its a 5.0 TBI....but I dont mind.
Chime in....would like to read your comments.

I think the year, lack of top desirable options, and mileage don't add up to a 10,000 difference compared to a driver (which is what I was looking for at the time.) But I imagine asking is 15 and they will get 11 if they wait it out, 8500 if they want to move it tomorrow.

i just sold last year a 5,000 mile iroc for 17,500 and it was a tough sell and the car was like new inside and out with the original tires that were like new .. also sold a rare 85 trans am 5 speed with the 5.0 ho motor in it with 10,000 miles for 12,000 and it was in excellent condition ..

It would sell easier if it was a t-top 5 speed car with the U1A factory CD player. Just my opinion.

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
That's a super nice car. A creampuff. I'm sure the undercarriage is just as nice. I've seen a couple low mile, minty, Heritage RSs go for $16-$17K. But they were rare colors like Polo Green.
I see it's at a dealer, so the asking price is probably up there. To the right buyer this might be a $16K car, but I'd be all done at $12K if I were trying to buy it.

Its not JUST about low miles....that car is nice, but does not look AS nice as the one on ebay with the ttops....IMO....wonder what the underside looks like?? That is my measure of a good clean car.

Just bought this one....here are some more pics....waiting for transport to deliver it later next week. Will be doing some mods and am considering dropping in a ZZ6....lets face it, this one is not rare (other then the mileage) but it's like starting out with a BRAND NEW 1992 RS....should be fun....first up is a set of Hawks 17" GTA wheels in black!

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
Congrats! That will look fantastic! I'd recommend adding a black grille. I just added the wheels to my 1991 B4C. Also put on Hotchkis lowering springs and a Hawks adjustable panhard. The car already had poly bushings and bilsteins:
Regarding your car, if you're going to want performance, be warned that you will go so far down the modification hole that it will be difficult to effectively put the car back to stock in a reasonable amount of time. The maximum value proposition for this car will always be as an all original, low-mile car. Mess with that formula, and you may feel it on resale. That being said, if you do it right you may not lose much value other than what you spent on mods.
My dad had a 1991 RS 5.0 TBI T5 that he did his best to build into a Z28 1LE for SCCA autocross. He added the following:
SLP headers and 2OTL exhaust
Chip and Thermostat
Poly Bushings
Konis
Eibach lowering springs
16x8 2 piece wheels with 255/50/16 Good Year rubber
Subframe connectors
Hurst Shifter
Z28 steering box
3:42 posi rear end
Baer 12" disc brakes on all four corners
While it handled like it was on rails and stopped fantastically, it was still a LB9 or L98 swap away from truly competing with a factory stock Z28. But the car was a blast and horsepower didn't matter at an autocross. He got decent value for it at sale with 25k miles on the odometer despite the mods. Here it is a few years later with its current owner, but I haven't heard anything since 2013:

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
Thanks Kurt, BTW, I love your car!
That is the "Look" I am going for with this one.
Yes, going to do a black grille or maybe a Z/28 set up with fogs?...Not sure yet.
I fully understand and agree with you about going down the modification hole!
The older I get, the lazier I become and the thought of an engine swap may die quickly.
More then likely, I will do something just like your dad did with his RS TBI. I will drop you a PM, maybe we can swap contact info, I'd enjoy comparing notes.

Kurt, your dad's car was so cool with such well thought out and executed mods! And that's coming from an originality **** like myself.
Do you have the other in car video of it? You can really appreciate the beautiful exhaust note on that one.

Thanks Charlie - I forgot to add that he also upgraded the sway bars to Z28 1LE spec. I really wanted to get that car - it'd be the perfect candidate for an L98 swap (keep it period!).

If there's one thing I've learned about thirdgens, there is ALWAYS another one right around the corner. I see them all the time on Craigslist and Facebook classifieds, Ebay. Since I picked up my donor project, I've seen all kinds of thirdgens that'd make great projects and fun cars. All kinds of them are out there, just keep looking.

Finding a nice third gen that hasn't been modded by some worm is the way to go. You are an engine swap and a posi unit away from pretty much a Z28. I love the car. Nice car with a 170hp TBI or a modded 400 HP LS either way whatever u choose. Congrats

@ FormulaL98 & dmccain - Thanks! Definitely looking forward to getting it in the garage and doing a few mods. Ordering a set of 17" black GTA mesh wheels from Hawks this week. Need to do some research on "best bang for the buck" 275/40/17 tires. Will post up some more pics when it arrives.

No undercoating is a plus? That's a minus imho
I prefer my cars with undercoating especially if I plan on driving it
Are those the original wheels? I thought they came color matched to the paint
Also that front grille needs to go! A great looking red and black car like that deserves the black z28 grill with the red bow tie logo

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
Purists, collectors and such (including me) generally stay away from cars that have been undercoated - it just all depends on what you intend to do with the car. If you have something of show quality and want to enter a judged points based competition you don't want to show up at the party with a car that has been undercoated.
