PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
Purists, collectors and such (including me) generally stay away from cars that have been undercoated - it just all depends on what you intend to do with the car. If you have something of show quality and want to enter a judged points based competition you don't want to show up at the party with a car that has been undercoated.
Maybe people are just afraid of others hiding things? Which I could see a point there.
Do you plan on keeping that fugly grille installed? >_>

Dirty? Yeah because a uniform color and pattern is worse than inconsistently exposed over spray, amirite?
Salt? Who is driving their car in the salt? If you are, you seriously think a non-coated undercarriage will hold up longer?

It was mentioned earlier that enthusiasts and collectors don't like undercoating for many reasons. It traps dirt and makes the undercarriage not look natural. It's harder to clean because of the texture. Yes, undercoating, when applied correctly, could protect the underside, but many times it wasn't and salt/dirt would get trapped and cause rust. Please don't say that people didn't drive these cars in the snow, because I drove my 82, my 83 and my 88 in the snow when they were my only car.
Taking my car to a 1000 point judged show was very difficult when the undercarriage looked like this!
Now, it's much easier to clean and show, because it looks like this!

I'm not sure why anyone thinks these cars need MORE protection from rust. The body was designed with various drain points to allow moisture to run off and drip out of the body. The panels were treated with zinc, and an E-coat. Most of the undercoating I've seen was sprayed lazily on the bottom of the car. Usually the coverage is spotty at best. The places thirdgens generally rust, aren't even areas that normally get undercoated. A lot of the time, the aftermarket undercoating is sprayed over the drain points, plugging the holes.
Undercoating is a gimmick. It's an add-on a salesman can sell you that doesn't do much in reality beyond making a mess.

I'm interested in seeing it modified - it's nice seeing perfect examples get some tasteful mods. Just don't do anything irreversible - that car's entire value proposition is tied to its condition. Irreversibly harm its condition, and it's just another automatic RS 305TBI car and you'll probably lose money.

I wouldn't mod it but if I did.. Shift kit, S10 converter, posi, and gears really make this drive train you have much more better and its reversible if needs be. I done all these first and I won't do headers or TPI exhaust until my engine swap but did put 3 in exhaust which I also highly recommend. But again my car isn't a pristine original like yours. You have a rare gem

I have a fairly low mile 1982 Pace Car. People keep saying to keep the car stock, since it's low miles and mostly original, but the anemic 145 hp LG4 has to go. I've already decided that a new engine and trans will make this car more enjoyable. Plus, I'm starting with a really clean slate on the body and interior. So, you should do what you want with the car. If you like it as is, then keep it as is, but if you like the looks of the car and it's pristine condition, but want it to be a better cruiser, then do it.
I have no idea what was paid for this car, but if finances afford the changes you want, then do it.

Not all these cars need to be treated like Princesses. Life is short, enjoy what you have...

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
I've been threatening to make some small changes to my 91 RS for 18 years. Leaving it stock, and preserving it has translated to disinterest in the car. Ultimately I haven't touched the car since about 2006. It's not an exciting car to drive, it's so docile that it's really just boring, while also being stressful, since the book value for a TBI RS is lower than it'd cost to realistically replace the car.
At this point, I'd really rather have the garage space for something more interesting. Either that or make it more interesting by modifying the entire drivetrain to make it fun to drive. I don't want to mod it because it's authentic, I don't want to drive it because it's authentic and boring. So why do I keep it?

I've never been able to leave one stock. Can't believe I've left the 305 in my car this long but I have because it just runs so good and never gives me trouble. I doubt it will be in my engine bay this time next year though, my sons through with college and out working so..

Re: PRISTINE 1992 Camaro RS - 2959 miles - what would you pay??
In my younger days I would already have a new drive train installed in this car - problem is I've lost some steam and really dont want to go through all that work/time hassle, etc. In the past, I did all my own work - I could never find someone that will do the install to meet my strict requirements in quality etc AND then you have the expense of paying someone to do it - Not going to happen - Best bet for me is sell this one and find a nice 5.7 solid roof car or a 5.0 5 speed - The IDEAL situation would be to find someone that wants to work a trade deal - But everyone poo-poo's the car because of the TBI - go figure.....

Wow amazing find and congrats!!! Honestly all I would do is a nice set of wheels and tires. That's it. Just too nice to be messed with. Oh and a set of aftermarket floor mats to preserve the originals.
