Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

Hey guy I have a few questions about my camaro. Like the title says it’s a 87 vert looks like it was originally yellow like the iroc yellow. Vin # says it had a LG4 and come from Norwood. I don’t have the rpo codes. Is there anywhere I can get them or more info on my car. And is it possible that it’s an iroc ? It also looks like it’s an asc conversation

Any way to take the VIN and contact the GM Heritage Center for a reproduction of paperwork?

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

If you do get any information on the car, can you provide it to me? I'm keeping a registry database of all 1987 factory convertibles. If the 6th digit is a 2, then I don't need the info.

What I'm tracking is the VIN, exterior color, interior color, accent color, roof color, Z28/IROC-Z or Sport Coupe. The VIN already provides the engine code, but I am also tracking transmissions, just in case there was only 1 produced that doesn't follow the standard protocol. Thanks

Just spoke to GM Heritage and they are able to get me the rpo codes with the invoice 👍😁. I don’t know how long I have been trying to get it lol. Will be ordering it later today.

My car is a vin 2 car.

WOW!
That car was blue then painted yellow?
Lookie the holes in the floor!

Where did that car spend it life from new?
Any history?

Usually Fla. cars rot out around the windows!

BTW: Your RPO code list should be on the storage bin door
in the back. Possibly in/on the console lid.

Take a couple pics of the whole car so we can tell who did
the conversion.

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

The car I believe was originally yellow and at some point I think painted blue by the guy that my brother bought the car from which was around 2003 -2004. I was finally able to convince him to sell it to me because he had it seating in the yard for like 10 + years. I have had it for maybe almost 2 years now.

Yea but that could be easily changed. And for the 20th anniversary pouch it’s missing from the car. The guy we got the car from didn’t have it.

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

As was pointed out in your other thread... The car has a trim tag on the radiator mount, which stopped in '85.

Because the car is not what it seems. We all want to see an '87 ASC vert. Much like the Jamaica Yellow T/A over in that other thread from a few days ago, it just does not appear to be the case here either.

Who knows what this poor car has been through over the past 30 years.
Trim tag shows the body as an '83
VIN sticker shows '87
Who knows what the VIN plate under the windshield shows, if its been monkeyed with, or if its even there at all.

My guess is that the main body of the car is an '83 base model, the vert pieces came from an '87 car and applied to the '83 body a very long time ago. VIN plate under the windshield was swapped with the plate from the vert.

VIN and trim pics from the other thread are attached.

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

Is it possible they used the core support from an 83 to repair collision damage on an 87? Seems like a lot of work to turn an 83 into a convertible, but I know anything is possible.

Anything is possible. The yellow on the core matches the rest of the car, and has been painted over with blue. Hard to tell.

How can you tell that the tag says the body’s an 83 ?

The "D" in the upper left-hand corner. A=1980, B=1981, C=1982, D=1983. It does not list Z28 on the tag, so the tag is from a base model sport coupe.

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

What I want to know is why do people always seem to repaint the yellow cars to different colors? Yellow was such a rare color IMO.

Re: Yellow 87 convertible z28 or iroc ?

Yellow wasn't a popular color in the 80's. In 1988, I was looking for a new car and the local Pontiac dealership in Easton, PA had a yellow IROC-Z on the used lot. They were willing to drop the price considerably just to get rid of it. Being a Camaro guy, I was more interested in the Olds 442 they also had and wasn't interested in the yellow car. I would be today, but not back then.
