Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
Okay, it's a Mustang. An '82 GT. One owner, all original and unmolested from the southwest, so no rust. Needs a bit of cleaning up and TLC. It's hard to find a decent '82, they've all mostly been hacked, motor swapped and if from the midwest, rusted. Replacing those TRX tires will be painful, however.
I have fond memories of the '82 GT and it's 157 fire breathing horsepower. They changed the scene on the street as a response to the '82 Z28 and then GM had to respond with the L69 the following year. In a big way, this car is totally integrated into the 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird story.
I have a very good friend who is more or less a 5.0 guy. I was talking to him yesterday. He said what is happening here, you're getting a Mustang and I'm looking for an IROC!

Nice!! That's a heavy score! 1982 GT -- THE BOSS IS BACK lolol

Nice score! I think Mustangs got hacked up much more than F-Bodies.. That’s one good thing about GM making these cars trickier to hack for 1/4 mile times, some people just let them be. Everyone I knew that had a Mustang did everything they could to get every tenth of a second off their 1/4 mile. They were easier to make quick, but hacked and beat to all hell.
I appreciate a stock Mustang and the 82 might be the meanest looking of the decade.. There’s a super clean one that goes to cruise nights near me and I always check it out.
EDIT -- Had to add the pic. Arguably the nicest FOX front clip.
Those LMR 16" wheel/tire combos are definitely something to consider. But I think you guys know how I am about an original look, and those give the car a beefy non-stock look to my eye.

Yes, I have noticed there is some extreme factory/NOS OCD in the history forum hahaha I love it.
Maybe with a 205/60R16 would look closer to stock? A little beef but nothing crazy
Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
IDK, kinda sick of my 16" ponies... Obviously wish I'd held onto the half set of Draglites I had. They were 15x7s, so not really ideal for the front or the back. I'd still buy a set of Draglites if the price was right, and I kinda wanna crush the damn thing.
Finally figured out last night where the water was getting into the trunk.... Turns out there's a gap between the 1/4 panel and trunk lid frame that leaks like a sieve. Looks like they never even sealed the seam at the factory. Easy enough fix, but the rust in the trunk from the leaks will involve cutting and welding. Need to find someone to adopt the damn thing so I can put the proceeds towards the Green Firebird, but no one wants a rust bucket.

Yeah, 16" Ponies are nice but so many other options. I personally love the Stern/SC reps. I'm a little biased because I have a set on my 1995 but they look perfect on a fox. My calypso green coupe had 17x8.5 ROH Zr6 wheels. Actually traded my ponies for them haha. People would ask why I had Impala SS wheels on a Mustang lol.

I'd like to think that the people on this forum are generally mature adults that just enjoy cars in general. I think this forum in particular is full of guys that actually appreciate some of the cars that are generally underappreciated by the rest of the automotive culture. Would an '82 Mustang get any love on a Corvette forum, or on a 5 or 6th gen Camaro forum, heck no. But I bet the turbo FWD Chrysler guys would appreciate one, or the Fox t-bird cougar guys, or the 75-77 X-body GM guys, or the Fiero guys, or the 73-88 A/G-body GM guys (@ColonnadeCravings is one of my favorite Instagram feeds LOL), or the F-body Mopar guys, you all get the point.

Yeah the Ford vs GM thing is pretty antiquated. Maybe back when GM commanded half the US car market it made sense. Though I do still see Calvin taking a whizz on the Chevy, Ford or Dodge logo in the back glass of a full size truck now and then lol

Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
Some teaser pics. Needs a really, really good cleaning, carb rebuild, roof dent removed and driver's side mirror replaced, (owner fell from his garage loft and on the car), and driver's side tail light lens. 108K miles, one owner. Should be here next week.

Looks like it will need some work.. Will be a good before and after..
The dent in the roof sounds like it could be pretty bad from a person falling on it.. Is it just a PDR job?
Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
I can't speak for anyone else, but...
I like Mustangs.
I love Camaros.
But I LUST after Trans Ams!
So any of the above is okay in my book. And those fox body Mustangs were a bunch of fun back in the day. Cheap and fast. Is there a better combination?
Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
OK, I'm coming clean. Here's my skeleton..........
Almost all orignal, with dealer added stripes (which I am not a big fan of) Owner added sunroof, which I wish was not there. Original silver pinstripes on the mouldings are covered with red ones, which I don't mind at all.
I got to drive the identical car (minus the TRX wheels) when I was 18, in 1987. It was a blast & made an impression on my that stuck in my head forever. Just had to buy it when I found it. So many of these are just gone & most of whats left are ragged and worn out.

They are beyond used up. Still the original tires to the car. The owner drove the car for 3 years then bought some AR chrome nuggets for the car & threw the TRX's in the attic where they stayed until the day I bought the car.
in addition to being worn, they are dry rotted too. But, they do hold air. I drove it a few miles nervously & thats about it.
Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
As was mentioned, the majority of us are enthusiasts and enjoy a multitude of cars. Since 2014, I've owned a '14 GT, and '13 Roush Stage 3/Phase 3, '16 GT California Special and a '17 GT California Special. I only have the Roush today.
But, what many don't know is that Dirk, the founder of TGO has a Mustang GT, Willie, the original moderator of the forum has two GT500s, Drew, the other original moderator has at least 1 Mustang and Okfoz has a '16 GT Roush Stage 3.

Welcome to the dark side
Thanks Scott. Too bad we don't have a lounge, if we did I start a project thread on it.
Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
Silver GT will "supposedly" be here Thursday. I say "supposedly" because the transporter who is also the seller, is a bit sketchy on that. I also bought a driver's mirror and tail light lens to replace the broken pieces, they'll probably get here before the car. My goal is to try and save the factory paint. Wash with Dawn, kill a couple clay bars on it and feed that dry single stage paint with a few applications of Megs number 7, then paint correction.

I'm on there already and have started a thread on it. Very helpful bunch of guys to a newbie like me. That's where I found the parts so quickly.

Your fleet of mint thirdgens prompted only stifled laughter and polite silence. Foureyedpride...sounds like a meeting site for nearsighted homosexuals. : P

This after less than one minute of use. I only clayed the hood and roof. Gotta do the rest of the car. This car really has the potential to look spectacular with enough elbow grease. It runs pretty good, too!

Re: 1987 IROC-Z convertible. Are 4 IROCs too many?
Guys did they realease an IROC Z convertible with the 350 TPI motor in it?
I ask because last week at a car show there was a MINT IROC convertible, it had the 5.7lt badge on the bumper and the owner said it was a 350.
And I’ve heard guys say there was no IROC convertibles released with the 350 motor.
I didn’t get a chance to look at the RPO codes and was just too excited Looking at the car as it only had 25,000 Kms on it.
