1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
Over the last few years the interest in the 1LE cars has been growing and information about different combinations has come and gone. Most of it being wrong but some of it being right. Compnine does not have a complete database but it seems to be the best we have.
Over the course of the last week or so, JT & myself have gone through and pulled some of the various combinations from 1990, 91 & 92 to show what and how cars actually got built. Listed below is a comprehensive breakdown of both the Formula & Trans Am models and I hope to do the same with the Camaro in the near future. Hopefully this will dispel some of the myths of these cars and help people determine where they fit in the future.
1LE FIREBIRD BREAKDOWN
1988 Numbers:
1LE production 1989 = 3, All TA's
1LE + C60 = Unknown
1LE + MK6 = Unknown
1LE + L98 = Unknown
1LE + R7U = Unknown
1LE + Z49 Export Models = Unknown
1LE + CC1 T-Tops = Unknown
1989 Numbers:
1LE production 1989 = 27, All TA's
1LE + C60 = 0
1LE + MK6 = Unknown
1LE + L98 = Unknown
1LE + R7U = 17
1LE + Z49 Export Models = 20
1LE + CC1 T-Tops = Unknown
1990 Numbers - No B4U Hawk or R7U Players Cup produced:
1LE production 1990 = 4, All TA's
1LE + C60 = 0
1LE + MK6 = 4, All TA's
1LE + L98 = 0
1LE + Z49 Export Models = 1
1LE + CC1 T-Tops = 2, both MK6 1 domestic and 1 Export
1990 numbers are complete - Compnine has a full data set for this year.
1991 Numbers including B4U Hawk & R7U Players Cup info:
1LE production 1991 = 106, 46 Formulas & 60 TA's
1LE + B4U Hawks = 9, All Formulas
1LE + C60 = 9, All Formulas and all L98 and all B4U Hawks
1LE + MK6 = 87, 27 Formulas and 60 TA's
1LE + R7U = 23, All TA's and all MK6
1LE + L98 = 19, All Formulas, 9 B4U Hawks
1LE + Z49 Export Models = 43, All TA's, all MK6, 23 R7U Players Cup Cars
1LE + CC1 T-Tops = 27, 8 Formula & 19 TA, all MK6 and 15 of the TA's were Z49 Export
We are missing two numbers from compilation shown below which appear to be 2 TA's that were delivered domestically.
1992 Numbers including B4U Hawk & R7U Players Cup info:
1LE production 1992 = 27, 17 Formulas & 10 TA's
1LE + B4U Hawks = 11, All Formulas
1LE + C60 = 11, All Formulas and all L98 and all B4U Hawks
1LE + MK6 = 16, 6 Formulas and 10 TA's
1LE + R7U = 5, All TA's and all MK6
1LE + L98 = 11, All Formulas and all C60
1LE + Z49 Export Models = 6, All TA's and all MK6
1LE + CC1 T-Tops = 2, 1 Formula & 1 TA, both MK6 and both domestic
We are missing 4 cars from the numbers in the compilation shown below, 3 Formulas & 1 TA - the yellow car from Musclecar Review could be one of these and it would be the only MK6 C60 that was produced in the 91/92 series if it's for real and coded as a 1LE.
As we move forward with this and as more examples show up, I hope we can gain a better understanding for these rare cars, why and how they got built. I would welcome the contributions of others and will add to the list above as information becomes available. I hope it proves useful for others.

Re: ILE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
I had wondered about C60 and 1LE...Pontiac appears to have held the course on not allowing C60 (minus Hawks) except for the Muscle Car Review car. Thanks PurelyPMD and JT, great work!

I have some info on the 92 1LE Yellow TA if its the same one you are talking about from Muscle Car Review. I almost bought the car back in the day and know the current owner.

Just gotta say ... GREAT breakdown on 1LE numbers. I was doing some similar counts and recall you had done some. Then I looked ... and WOW ... here it all is!
Only missing color breakdown! :-)

1989 data is limited to the 76 in Canada. No US info to use. :-/
I'll re-read and let you know. It's pretty detailed! I need to post it on my wall!

I'd be interested in the 1LE camaro color breakdown numbers.
I've got a red 1991 1LE Z28 L98 with beechwood deluxe cloth.

Re: 1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
Is anyone keeping a database for individual cars and their RPO’s?
On a related note, I see 1LE.net is gone. How long ago did that happen?

Re: 1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
I'm doing coming digging back into this thread. At least on the 1991 and 1991 1lE Firebirds to start with. I've been playing with the CompNine data. It's not 100% accurate or complete as many of you know. That being said, it's a wealth of info. Work in Progress.
Additional info and VINs most welcome. Some of the cars are not in the CompNine Data. the 1992 Jamacia Yellow Formula is an example. CompNine does not include that VIN .
Anyone have a set of microfiche files?

I'm doing coming digging back into this thread. At least on the 1991 and 1991 1lE Firebirds to start with. I've been playing with the CompNine data. It's not 100% accurate or complete as many of you know. That being said, it's a wealth of info. Work in Progress.
Additional info and VINs most welcome. Some of the cars are not in the CompNine Data. the 1992 Jamacia Yellow Formula is an example. CompNine does not include that VIN .
Anyone have a set of microfiche files?

Re: 1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
Here is the second instalment. The easiest one. 1992 Trans Ams with 1LE. The only head scratcher is CompNine's GM data shows 10 cars with 1LE & Y83 but only reports 9 under the 1LE option. This data has glitches like that. The TA on line 10 looks suspicious to me. I only have 1 VIN from this list to verify a car. The Yellow car with Beige cloth has been well publicized and the owner is on this thread. The one "totalled" car, Line 5, I personally sat in back about 1995 and knew exactly what it was. Wanted to buy the car for the $9,000 asking price but was a young lad with more $ than garage space. Woulda, shouda, coulda. After hearing the car was totalled, I asked around to see what was left but the car had been parted out long before. It's gone.
Anyone here have better info or something to help refine the data? Please and thank you.

Re: 1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
Here is the third instalment, the 1992 Formulas with 1LE according to CompNine plus other data I have amassed over the past, holy crap, 28 years. The Jamaica Yellow car that Bruce Hawkins has is well known and is NOT in the CompNine database. According to many sources there should be 18 1LE Formulas for 1992. I've documented 15 of the cars on this list. CompNine says 11 B4U cars. I have documented 14. The later Firehawks #23, 24, 25, 26, 27 are not 1LE or B4U cars. Double checked that.
I realize this is quite different than the info that has been in the public for years, Exactly why I am trying to document the actual cars one by one.
Anyone know more about cars on lines 15 through 24?

I don't doubt there are some weird glitches, as we have discovered such over the years. But I'm not following this one? It shows 27 total 1LEs in their 1992 database. Add Trans Am and it becomes 10. The other 17 are from Formulas.

have we learned anything more about the camaro side of color breakdowns on the 1LE's? or how would we go about finding the breakdown of the 478 1991 1LE's

Re: 1LE Facts & Figures - Number Breakdown by RPO Codes
One more thing. I suspect the reason the JY car, VIN 00001 IIRC, isn’t in the compnine data is because when that data was cut, the car was still in GMs possession. Always had been. I think the data they release is shipped cars, not built. Which is why there are occasional gaps in the VIN sequence.
I have mostly studied fourthgens but they are all GM. For a long time GM said there were 99 1998 1LE Camaros. Three of them were SS, one blue, one black and one silver. But then a white one in Canada popped up, with full documentation from the dealer and even GM of Canada. Now the official number is at 101 cars. I believe that is because of the white SS not being counted, along with a pre-prod car, super low VIN, that was kept by GM until December of 2000 according to Carfax. The color breakdowns they released supports this, along with the low VIN car having leather and power seats, which were definitely not available to the average dealer order.
What I found interesting about that low VIN car is that a 1998 1LE existed, before they finished building 97’s. I have 10+ ’97 1LE’s that were built after that ‘98.
