92 FireHawk Wheels

I really like the 92 Firehawk style of wheels. I'm having a difficult time trying to locate some similar ones. Does anyone know of a manufacturer or where I could locate these cool wheels? Thanks.

They've been discontinued for a number of years now... Used sets run $600 and up.

Give a call to SLP, ask to speek to someone who knows what is laying around in boxes forgotten about. I have heard MANY stories about people getting discontinued parts from them that are not shown in the catalog. 92GTA was able to get some discontinued parts reciently.

I cannot count how many wheel sites I've looked at. Everyone seems to have the RICE style of wheels. I don't like wheels that have the chromed look either. I think machined aluminum has a certain look to it, that I like. What I'm looking for is similar to the '91-'92 Z28 wheels, but that is recessed squarely like the Firehawk style. The 5 spokes should be smooth with no line cut in them. I'll try to contact SLP, and see what they say. If only 25 of these were produced in '92, then how would they be available used? Did SLP sell them seperately? Thanks for the info guys...

SLP has been contacted many, many times about the wheels as well as the T-ram. They have neither. The wheels were originally made by Ronal, and people have contacted them directly, still with no luck. Used is the ONLY way you're going to find a set.

last time i was at SLP they had the last teal 92 for sale; i think it had roughly 40,000 and they were asking about 17,000.

you could always buy the car, take the wheels off, and sell it!

buy the car then, it's your only choice; next to actually finding a set. they don't have any, nor will they make any for you.

Contact this Guy at Ronal. They are thinking about re-introducing these wheels.

Here is what he wrote me:
***************************************************
Dave:
Thanks for your interest.
These would be a FACTORY duplicate of the wheels we previously have done...
They would be silver finish, and custom painted finishes would be done, on a
set by set basis, here in the USA.
Wheels made to original specs...17x9.5", 5x120.65 bolt pattern to fit
Camaro/Firebird/corvette series cars,
We would duplicate the wheels exactly...
I will get you more specific info later today.
THANK YOU>

I just sold some....

These Ronal wheels you are looking for? I just sold a mint set w/BF Goodrich ZR 275/40/17 tires (like new **** still on them) for $1026.00 on Ebay. These wheels are the Ronal R-15 wheel only used on the '92 Firehawk as you know. I have the guys email address (he is from CA) if you want to try and take them off his hands?

I must say if both my 15th and 20th Anniversary T/As wern't all orginal I would have kept them for myself. I just couldn't let them sit in the garage and go to waste.

I sent an email to Ronal too, and this is what they said:

Subject: 17" R15, FH
Message: Hello. We are considering doing an additional production run of the R15,
17x9.5" silver Firehawk wheels, for Camaro/Firebird.
I am looking to see what level of interest there is out there, so please
have your cohorts email if they have an interest. They could be available in
the Spring of 02.

That guy has 2 sets? Lucky bugger I have the article with the '92 Big Block Camaro the Chev Race Shop built, if anyone wants it. It has those wheels on it. Mark Stielow had those on his first "magazine car" too. I have that article as well. I hope Ronal re-pops them, but I'm not getting my hopes up. How much did they retail for when they where new? I hope we aren't looking at Fikse or HRE $$$ here.

I'd love a set of those. I've been thinking about it for a while. If a reproduction run is done I'd be interested in a set, assuming I am able to spare the funds when the time comes.

When I looked at that car (#26) in 1998 it had only 10 miles on it and the guy I talked to said they just turned down $24K for it. I know his name, but don't wish to disclose it right now...

They also had the first car (It was red #1) the car in all the promotional pictures.

THis is getting off topic, but...

When I looked at the two cars, I honestly was NOT that impressed. They were nice, don't get me wrong, but I really did not feel like they were worth what they were asking. BOTH of them had those little superficial cracks in the upper rear corner of the door windows.

I guess $35K was a little steep... For that amount I would invest in a Ferrari 308 or 328 than spend it on a car that "might" go up in value. I told Mike that too, he kind of agreed. (Mike was the guy showing me the cars). $17K would be a fair price, but not $35K.

(In acceptance that were getting off topic)

I agree, The reason I would not pay 35K for one, is it still is a Firebird Formula, from the outside there is nothing special about the body, the only thing that sets it apart is the wheels, and to be honest, they look aftermarket. I like them, it just do not look like it rolled off the assembly line with them on. THere is something about factory wheels that look right on a car. Although I think the Ronal Wheels look good on a camaro for some reason...

I wish I had a source for the wheels, cause I would sell them by the ton for 3rdgens...
