1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Sorry, I still don't have any pictures of it yet besides that one I took on the way home with it.
It's an 85. Some cool notes about it
3 owners
91,000 miles
LS/C saddle interior
rear wiper
overhead console
power antenna
hardtop
rear disk 10 bolt
LB9
Hard top
All original after I removed a Jacobs ignition box, kill switch, and extra fan on the front of the radiator except for a Gale Banks 2 on the left exhaust
It needs a little paint/body work, but the drive-train is very solid, and the interior is close to perfect(two wear marks on drivers seat),but thankfully not on the Camaro, Camaro, Camaro part....
Just going to clean and fix things on it and keep it original and cruise it

Very cool!!! I'm a stickler for originality, but I'd keep the Gale Banks exhaust on it.
Where'd you find it?

That's the exact way I felt about the exhaust.
It even has a emission sticker from Gale Banks under the hood on the TPI airbox.

Is it a Norwood car? Do you mind posting the vin? I am just curious to see how close it was built to my 85.
Also, large, clear interior pictures are a must when you mentioned it has L/S seats.

Sure. I'd love to know more about it

I will get pictures.
Besides two small tears on the drivers bolsters(not near the "camaro" part" thankfully and one faded panel, its near perfect!

Very nice buy- I am original owner of 87 IROC and put Gale Banks exhaust within the first month of buying mine (ordered car in March, delivered June of '87). I put 217,00 awesome sounding miles on that system and it was STILL good when I took it off. They were very well built systems mine held up even with NY winters....!
Good luck!

If you find an SEM color that matches, let me know. All the ones I tried in my yellow IROC thread don't match, so you can cross those off the list.
If I had it to do over, I would have had the paint store mix some some up for me.

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Thanks! There is only one spot on the seat(drivers) and it is a small hole in the bottom and side bolster of it. I hope to get those patched up soon. Luckily its far away from the "camaro" part.
Got factory style wires for it to replace the ugly red ones, a new coolant jug(and cap).
It's been so long since I've had a stock car I would like to see how the wires are ran stock!

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
you know that is not the speedometer that was installed at the factory. 1985 has 85 mph speedometers. is your miles correct does not really matter you have a great car.

The miles have been verified via carfax, it only has 3 owners(including me), and yes, this speedometer was NEVER offered in a thirdgen from the factory. It was a GM performance parts add-on that some people opted for to get rid of the 85 mph speedo.
Thanks, I love it as well!

This car is super sweet. I love the options. As others have said this was def special ordered due to the options. LSC interiors are great too. Now that I have one I don't want to go back. Why not have the interior stand out as much as the exterior!

The older I get the more I appreciate original cars.....especially my favorite yellow ones!
Sure, I'd like a NOS heater hose. Pm me please.
Also looking for the glass And metal surround for a passenger side fog light, a factory rear speaker (determined one of the original 6x9s just stopped) and I think I have my old cargo cover that looks to have been lost over the years

I might print this picture off so when people question the placement of my fog light switch in my 85, I can show them that the early 85's had the wiper option and thats where the wiper switch went.
After they stopped offering the rear wiper, the fog switch was moved to the "normal" location.

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Thanks everyone. Drove it to get Ice cream with the family and it did great. I do have a few things it needs, so if anyone can help me I'd love it
I need
-passenger fog light glass and metal surround only(rest is still there)
-cold start injector line is leaking(JUST found it today) so I need a 9th injector line that screws to the back of the injector rail.
-a stock delco 6x9 to rep[lace one that is inop(10 ohm). All the rest work very well!!!
I am glad that my daughter and wife liked it.

Yes sir. lol
Her name is Jenny
867-5309
Car did great. Tires are a little hard and it sprung a leak at the hard line at the back of the fuel rail where the cold start injector line attaches.
It looks like it only needs an o-ring.... Finding one that small is being a pain though.

Question: On one of the pics showing your gauges, your Temp gauge is pointing N.E., does it stay there ? Mine does on my '83 Z . I have tried everything posted here, except for replacing the temp gauge it's self.
If your does not work, and you fix it... please let me know your secret.
Thanks, Rod

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Yes, it has been fixed since that picture.
I simply removed the gauge bezel, and removed the gauge. Most times you can put light pressure on the needle to bend it inwards enough to no longer go up there.
After you do that some, simply press the gauge back in it's place and turn the key forward like you're going to start, but don't start it. That is when the needle jumps the hardest.
Mine didn't work by just pushing down slightly, so I removed it again and pointed the needle to "3:00". That put the end of the needle off of the gauge completely. I then lightly bent the end of the needle(where it gets thinner) so it was pointing down(can't see it, but can feel it). At that point I turned it back to normal and tried it again. Worked perfect!
Its been working good for at least 25 starts now.
Hope that helps.

I do think he is way overpriced though. By about 10k

That is a nice care but he isn't going to get $20k for that car. The interior is faded. The cloth material over the head rests don't look correct either.
Thats one issue with our cars that I dont like - they haven't started making reporoduction interior seat material that is 100% the same as the factory. The materials close but not the same.
I'd get some stock 16'' IROC wheels back on it too. 17'' or 18'' wheels are the biggest I would put on a 3rd gen and still expect to have some descent handling and ride quality.
And those Z28 strips need to get replaced by the IROC stripes. It is a nicely options car though. I just wish some of those changes hadn't been made. I know I'm picky about cars so you'll have to take my comments with a grain of salt ha ha!.
The car you bought is really nice, I've been following your thread. You have the same car I saw in an old magazine article about the 1985 IROC. It was yellow, and had same interior you had as well. Still even 30 years later there are still not to many cars that can hang with a stock third gens in corners!

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
I agree, I've always liked how these cars handle!
Did a few more small updates and fixes this weekend.
Spare never been out, I thought that was pretty cool!
Next, I removed the grill to put in the foglights(1 and 1/2 of one were in the trunk)
I also cleaned the area and painted the grill with trim black(I will paint the letters silver later)
Before(its not as faded as this looks)
Removed
I didn't know that the brackets for 85's were also different. They are different from the 86 up fogs.
On the left is the 85. On the right is one from an 86.
Back in(hood is popped)
Of course my favorite little helper is ready for a ride.

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Then, on Sunday I did a few simple engine changes.
New GM coolant jug and Advance auto cap
Removed the hideous red wires(2 were burnt anyway) and routed them MUCH better. I also fixed a couple broke vacuum lines. The car runs MUCH better.
[IMG][/IMG]
CHECK out that routing!
On another note, we rode 4 deep(me, wife, kids) over 2 hours in it with NO issues.
I think it's going to be pretty reliable. It chirps second on the 1-2 shift nicely

Re: the 9th injector. My 88 IROC had it's original doggy tail injector and I couldn't wait to nueter that part right off. At the time, those 9th's wern't even available. I'm curious why you would do that to yourself when it's so easy to bypass? (just thinking it might be time to learn something knew) Nitro-Nicky

Well, luckily I was able to repair it relatively cheap and with this car I am trying to keep it as original as possible. ..

Yes sir. lol
Her name is Jenny
867-5309
Car did great. Tires are a little hard and it sprung a leak at the hard line at the back of the fuel rail where the cold start injector line attaches.
It looks like it only needs an o-ring.... Finding one that small is being a pain though.

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Hahaha. Not too many, I guess!
Well, spent some time this weekend on it after driving it at least 150 miles. It is holding up well so far. Fixing things as they come!
The fan went out and took out some wiring(burnt due to the motor drawing too much current! I was able to put a LT1 fan motor off of a parts car on it and rewired it!
Also, found a stock style replacement speaker. Put that in as well. Radio still cuts out some, so I think I will send it off soon to get fixed and an AUX port added soon.
Painted the lettering on the front grill gold
I had a never used, but broken tuned port injection emblem laying around(got broke in shipping) that was silver. I pieced it together, cut off the 5.7 part and painted it gold. Not perfect, but MUCH better than what was on there.
Next I took some time buffing it out. I only used a cleaner compound and wax, but wanted to get it a little cleaner and start looking at what parts I can live with and what parts that will end up getting repainted. I THINK just the nose, passenger rear quarter(due to a couple large scratches), rivers rear view mirror(different color), and maybe a spot on the rear bumper with a stress crack on the left rear side. I'd like to keep it mostly original paint.
Before that I am going to get in touch with a good local dent guy and have him work on a few dents and slight creases the car has.
Anyway, here are a few pictures. You can find more in my gallery.

Your car looks great! What paint did you use on your grill? I need to repaint the gold lettering on the grill in my IROC too.

I used Sems trim black on the grille and then painted the CAMARO on with a gold paint marker.
Worked better than I imagined!
