Keep seeing questions about the iroc rocker and bumper aftermarket badges. Well, he's right when he says they are JUNK! I won't be putting these on my car. Anyone want them? Otherwise I'll put them on my toolbox. Font is so off it's not even funny. Plus the OE ones are actual badges, not just a sticker. Scott, feel free to use this pic in future threads to show how awful they are!

Just by me looking at the letters "R" and "Z" you can tell these are crap! Not close to the original design. I'm **** with stuff like that. Just like when you find crappy door decals and the IROC is way off as far as writing style or size, I seen some that cover the whole lower half of the door! WHY????

They are all over ebay. It is nearly impossible to find the original IROCZ badges for 88-90 cars. The Z28 emblems are everywhere but the IROCZ ones are not. I wish I had known that these parts were going to be hard to come by now. Back in 1994 when I had my other IROC painted you could buy hood louvers for 50 bucks a side and fog lights for 80 bucks each. I still have an overhead console flashlight laying around here somewhere. Even those are expensive now.

Ebay pricing is mostly ridiculous because you have a few people trying to rip off the rest of the community. They think that since parts are now hard to find that we will pay the price if we want the part. I say let them keep the part. I saw a new set of factory louvers listed for $995. I understand where some third gen owners complain about the price of parts when discussing these parts, but we need to buy the quality parts from those few vendors that are trying to reproduce quality.

Ebay pricing is mostly ridiculous because you have a few people trying to rip off the rest of the community. They think that since parts are now hard to find that we will pay the price if we want the part. I say let them keep the part. I saw a new set of factory louvers listed for $995. I understand where some third gen owners complain about the price of parts when discussing these parts, but we need to buy the quality parts from those few vendors that are trying to reproduce quality.

I can get them made, if I got an original set, I would make them to look as exactly correct as I can.
I should say (might) Might be legal things with the Chevrolet emblem.
Keep in mind the different colors might take a while, but I will look into it if anyone is interested. What is the most common color and go from there...

John, if you can make these, you could always give them away to the people that need them and charge them the cost of shipping only. This will get past some of the licensing issues. Get my drift? :wink:

My picture has the factory originals and the crap ones.
The original rocker emblems are an actual hard plastic badge with an inlayed sticker. The knock offs are just stickers. My originals are pretty decent. Little clean up and they will be fine. Glad I kept them!

Another thing I notice is the originals are two tone. the top two stripes are darker than the bottom 4 stripes...
The really sad part is it is not that much harder to try and do it "right" and make it as exact as possible.. I make the "Fuel Injection" door decals for Bruce, and they look as right as we could get them made, the Font, Size, Some people probably say the color is not exactly right, but I have about 10 originals and they all vary a little from one to the other.
What I see, is the aftermarket ones the corners of the letters are all rounded, instead of squared off. There is not a single letter that is "right" IMHO... if the color was off a hue or two I think that would be less a problem than having the letters look like bubble letters.

If you look at the remakes, the top of "R" has two rows open in the loop where the factory used only one row. Also, the factory "Z" can be rotated 180* and still look the same. The remake looks ridiculous and if rotated 180* will look like a stupid "2". The black lines through the remakes are all width where the factory has wider black lines at the top than the bottom. That might be contributing to the gradient effect.

I bought the "5.7 TUNED PORT INJECTION" that goes below these... Did you make those for Bruce? They look like a factory match, as does the 5.7 bumper badge. It's just these that are bad.

I used nos bumper emblems for now, just cut bow tie off. My rocker emblems were trashed. Would have looked better mounted in the black plastic but mine were pretty wore out. If I decide to do something different in future it shouldn't be too difficult to change. I'm not sure who/where, but I did get the idea off of TGO.

This emblem actually has 4 colors.
1) Background Black
2) Dark Red
3) Med/DK Red
4) Red
It could be made with only 3 or 2 depending on how you mixed the colors, the Black and Red, with the Red having various amounts of Black to make it darker.
I suspect they do that so it is not as apparent that the Red is not exactly the same color as the red paint.

They are three color and always have been going back to the 82s. The line weights are different for each line. The font lines are all sharp on the factory originals but the corners are all rounded on the remakes. The end pieces of the Z also have a slight curve to the inside, while the remakes are just a square.

Unfortunately Pictures are no use, even if you are off 1° it skews the whole thing, a Scan is perfect because I can use it as a reference, and usually they are not as high of quality, but dimensionally and proportionately they are perfect.

Heck I'll take one off the side of my iroc and scan it if that meant we could get better reproductions. Only problem I am gonna have is that the colors on mine turned. But I will still take it off if it helps get the reproduction process going.

Boy, at first glance I figured those poor reproductions surely must've come from Classic Industries, given their track record…
Those repops look absolutely terrible; I'm too lazy to check myself, but see if Modern Day Muscle has NOS originals. I goy my NOS RS emblems from them a couple years back.

The 85 and 86 and 89 cars I took apart had a plastic insert that the studs pressed into, almost like a wall anchor, NO it wasn't wall anchors. None were IROCs, 2 Zs and an RS, but I doubt they changed the mounting style just for IROCs. Think about it, the GFX are mounted to the fender with screws under these emblems, if the speed nuts are put on the emblems before putting the GFX on, how do you put the screws under them? I think the speed nuts were added to the reproductions as a theft deterrent.

Modern Day Muscle does not offer the IROC decals as NOS, at least they do not show them. They have several Z28 and RS decals however
