1991 Police Interceptor Firebird Concept?

Hey friends! I have a question.
Tomorrow I am going to look at and possibly purchase what the guy claims to be a 91' Police Interceptor Firebird Concept. He says it was made in 1989, and given to the Texas dps in 1990 to catch camaros and mustangs. It looks like a 1991. He says it has a high output 305, and low gear ratio. It has a non-motorized trunk release.

Have any of you heard of this car? What should I look for to make sure it's the real deal? I have found no info about it.

Thanks,
Frito

Re: 1991 Police Interceptor Firebird Concept?

There was no firebird special service package cars ever built, and in '89 there was no camaro B4C cars either. If it is a 91, GM did build 592 B4C packaged camaros (I own one), but I found nothing looking on the RPO production number build sheet about any firebird cars. Not to say that the police department did not use this car as a patrol vehicle, but it was not built specifically for that purpose. If it were somehow true, there would have to be some official documentation that the car was designated as a special service package and NOT just used by the police department. I would personally say it probably a regular car.

Re: 1991 Police Interceptor Firebird Concept?

Yes, but as the same as on that thread it was NOT a B4C packaged car. It was just a firebird that was used as a police car....any car can have police equipment attached to it, but the car was not originally built as a special service package vehicle.
The RPO code designator on the build sheet for "special service package" B4C....and none were firebirds.

Im sure it's just a firebird that the police department owned at one time.

Re: 1991 Police Interceptor Firebird Concept?

Police departments to this day regularly convert standard cars into police cars. I know a shop that specializes in it. In my area even the new Charger police cars are rarely police package cars. Most are 6 cylinder cars the department had converted.

Re: 1991 Police Interceptor Firebird Concept?

that is a true statement.....depends on the deptment policy. We here were running NON police package ford escapes, just standard base model 4x4 with v6, but they would break down ALL the time, and would go through brakes and alternators like no other, not to mention they were slow and handled like a school bus on these mountain roads....we switched to ford explorer police package for 2014, WAY better improvement...no mechanical issues, twin turbo motors are fast, and handling great. Ford even equips all the rigs with lights, radios, and controls already installed.
Having a police package usually just consist of bigger brakes, sometimes different suspension, bigger alternators, more engine cooling, etc. But you get the cool honor of saying it is a police package car lol
