Hit and Run

Hit and Run
I was rear-ended yesterday and the other car drove off when I pulled over to exchange information. I was pretty shaken up so I didn't go after him/her. I got out to inspect the damage, and luckily there was a nice print of the license plate left on my bumper.
The plate number looks to be 248-XJQ. I'm in Washington. If anyone can help me out with some information on the car, please PM me, I would appreciate it. The car was maroon and looked to be a Pontiac or Saturn (my glasses were knocked off in the impact).
I know this isn't really the place to post this, so I apologize in advance, but this is the section of TGO that I use most often. I'd appreciate some help in getting information on the car. My neck is killing me!

Re: Hit and Run
according to carfax (search by plate number, assuming the driver had Washington tags), it's a 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM SE1. hope this helps.

I'd call the police with the information. In most states, it's a misdemeanor to leave the scene of an accident as long as the damage exceeds a nominal amount (or if you're hurt).

Absolutely you must call the police. They will have the best shot at nailing this person, and you probably need to report it by law in any case.

Re: Hit and Run
Thanks to everyone for the replies. The state patrol and my insurance company are both trying to match up the possible license plate numbers to a car. The only problem is the first three numbers a 2 4 8 are clearly visible, but the last three are letters of the alphabet and only show the top half of the letters. So it can be a possibility of about a dozen cars. They are investigating the possibilities and I'll let everybody know if they come up with anything.

Re: Hit and Run
Is it possible to post a picture of your rear bumper ?
It must have been an older (embossed) plate, as opposed to the new laser/flat plates. In the future, we'll loose the plate impression (evidence) as they phase out the embossed plates.
I never liked disturbing the aerodynamics of a Firebird's nose w/that ugly black front licence plate bracket, which often required drilling holes in a brand new bumper ! Now at least in you case, it provided you with good evidence of your perpetrator.
It would be awful if it turned out that it actually was a Pontiac driver who hit, & left the scene of an accident ? I hope the police nail that guy.
