Induction hood

I have a 1983 L69 5 Speed Z/28. The car has the fiberglass hood and is missing the air induction pan that bolts to the bottom of the hood. I know that L69 cars had the dual snorkel air cleaner and that crossfire cars like the 82 Pace Cars actually mated their air cleaner to the air induction setup. This prompts my questions?

Did L69 carburetor cars also have the air induction pan mounted to the bottom of the fiberglass hood?

If yes to the above question was the carb air cleaner assembly different to mate to the hood since the L69 had a carburetor rather than injection as in 1982?

If the carb air cleaner was different how did the air cleaner mate to the fiberglass hood if at all?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Induction hood

I am not 100% on the camaro but i think its the same concept for the firebird. the l69 cars had them but the assembly that bolts to the hood is different. It has the rubber gasket on the air cleaner lid rather than on the hood like the crossfire.
the carb setup for this will share the same air cleaner base, and just have the lid with a hole and gasket

Re: Induction hood

Would you or anyone else happen to have a picture of the underhood assembly that bolts to the hood and an air clenaer picture?

Re: Induction hood

Sounds to me like someone changed the hood on your car. The L69 has a closed air cleaner and dual snorkels to draw air from the front of the car. Opening up the hood above a closed air cleaner wouldn't make any sense. In the LU5 Crossfire setup, the air cleaner element was open on the top and sealed to the hood so when the flaps opened it would draw air directly in to the air cleaners.

From the 3rd gen site info on 1983's:

"All Z28 hoods were switched from SMC to steel except the LU5 air induction hood. This would be the last year for this functional induction hood, only available on the Z28, which still featured opening flaps for a ram air-like effect."

As you stated the hood had to have been changed as the car is a L69.

Thanks for you information and response!

I owned an original L69 Z and it had an SMC hood with no flapper. 83 is a unique year in that respect but I have not seen an 83 L69 Camaro with an open hood or flapper. 89SSP from the SSP board living in Woodvegas, TN!

Re: Induction hood

Like was said the l69 camaros did not have the induction hood. I have seen a few TA.s with them.
