First post- Seriously looking
First off let me say that as a younger guy I was never real kken on Camaros. Everybody had one when I was younger. Now i am quite abit older, they aren't quite as common, and I have taken a liking to them lately. But really, I know nothing about them.
With that being said let me tell you what I'm looking at and then maybe someone could chime in with their thoughts.
I've just recently found a 1984 Z28 with 61,000 miles on it. 150 HP 305, with t-top. What caught my attention was the condition this car is in. It's almost mint from what I can see by walking around, sitting in and looking under the hood. Everything looks VERY factory except for the radio and maybe the paint? I mention the paint because of the fact that the car is a darker shade of blue with a lighter shade along the lower portion of the car that comes up almost to the body line about half way up. And it just sort of mists into the darker color. It's still very nice looking, but I don't know if that was original.
Now this car is at one of many used car dealers that are scattered all over the place, so I don't know the origin yet, but it looks like it may have been a southern car.
With all of what little I have said about it, does $ 6,800 sound like an unreasonable price? I know that's allmost a loaded question, but like I said, I know just about nothing about Camaros in general.
Thanks, for any input,
Ron

Got a link to the ad?
$6800 would buy a really nice 3rd gen.
Paint soundds not stock, but again, without pics we can't really judge much.

i think $6800 does sound like a decent price if indeed in nice clean 61000 mi. condition. At that price i would look it over for any hidden rust or accident damage though. If you are not the"gearhead"type, engine/drivetrain condition will be important too-should be fine at only 61000 if maintained decent.

I'd say the main thing that would hold the car back from that price will be the paint...there were no 2 tone "fade" factory paint jobs, only regular 2 tones with just the rocker panels and lower few inches showing the contrasting color.
If you love the custom paint job, then it might be worth it for you personally...just be prepared to take a loss when you go to resell it as it will likely not appeal to other buyers, particularly those that are looking for a low mileage car like this one.
Pictures would really help us value the car if you have any way of linking us to an ad or getting them on here.

Look for other little clues as well to see if it's a low mile car. There will be little to no wear on the switches etc, and on the steering wheel.
These cars don't have the 100,000 category, so many look at them and think they are low mile cars when they really are not.
Post up some pics if you can.

This is an '82. Very close to an '84 in appearance. 82-only paint scheme.

Trouble here is the aftermarket paint job and the LG4, with the former being the major issue. Generally speaking, these cars are worth a lot more in stock condition and modified cars are very tough to sell, especially with custom paint that isn't easy or cheap to fix.
If you like it, then fine, but for a long term investment you could probably do better with a stock car with one of the performance engines.

I'll agree with Slater126. It's hard to assess value without really good pics. There was a L69 '84 Z 5-spd for sale here in CO last year that was in pretty good shape and I think they were asking $7500. In fact, there's a place with an '88 IROC asking $10k which looks great in the pictures, but not so great when you see it in person.
The non-original paint is a negative for value in my book. A good paint job is at least $4k+, so if you wanted to put it back to factory, you would have$10.8k in the car, and I don't think it's worth that. Even if the paint is something you like, $6800 sounds a bit on the high side for me. For the record, I don't think it's a $3k car, but from what you described, it's not a $7k car either. Again -- pics would help out.
