Is 1990-1992 5-Speed GTA Same as G92 IROC?

Just wondering if these have same performance characteristics? Is see a lot of stuff on the G92 IROCs but nothing on the GTAs that have the dual CATs, 3.42 axle and 5 speed tranny? Not sure if the Z28s from 91-92 had that option.

I may be way off but was just wondering.

Went back to search some more after posting this. Is the quote below correct?

In 1990-92, you had to order the G92 package to get the most powerful LB9 -- 230 horses. With the LB9, the G92 package included 3:42 gears, aluminum spare, 4-wheel disc brakes, engine oil cooler, N10 exhaust, the L98 camshaft and P245/50ZR16 tires. It was only available with the 5-speed LB9 and not available with T-Tops. Incidently, all L98 cars during these years had the G92 package also, meaning they didn't have T-Tops either.

If you ordered the LB9 without the G92 package it made 205 horses with a mild cam and single exhaust. The 205 horse version was available with either the automatic or manual.

Perhaps because the G92 package was unavailable with T-Tops, 1990-92 N10/LB9/M5 cars seem to be a lot more rare than the 1987-89 LB9/M5 cars. For example, only 733 1991 and 602 1992 Z28s were built with the LB9/G92 combo. I imagine G92/LB9 1991-92 Formulas would be even more rare than that given that they only made about 6,500 total Formulas during these two years!

You should have the RPO code R6P, which would basically be the same a the Camaro G92.

I have a 90 GTA with N10/LB9/M5 plus aluminium spare and oil cooler and T Tops but I don't have the R6P code. I'm not sure what the camshaft specs would be. Rear gears are 3:42. I should mention it is a Canadian export car - don't know if that makes a difference.

Just checked the Tach - 5500 RPM redline

I found the SPID for the car and it does indeed have the R6P now Ive gotta find out how that makes it differ from 90 GTA Black's car! Is it the cam?

A little more research and now I understand R6P. It is an option package not just one option.

R6P - (19??-1990) CONTROL, SALES ITEM NO. 15, (1991-1992) PERFORMANCE PACKAGE, G92, N10, J65, KC4

In 1990-92, you had to order the G92 package to get the most powerful LB9 -- 230 horses. It was only available with the 5-speed LB9 and not available with T-Tops.
This not necessarily true because my car has all of those options plus T-Tops.

It sounds like it is just the cam. I'm not sure what cam I have as the engine hasn't been apart.

I just checked and I have KC4 as well - what does that code for?

KC4 - COOLING SYSTEM, ENGINE OIL

You know Black GTA you may have the same thing I have its just the notation is different on the coding. Looking at the info from Austin's Third Gen it may be that in 19??-1990 it was a code for something else and 91-92 it became this "performance package" that included the same stuff you have listed separately. Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Yes, it is a Z49 export code.
